Superstar halfback Louis Werchon snatched a 20-15 victory for Brothers over University in a colts rugby thriller on Saturday at Crosby Park.
Werchon’s darting blindside run off the back of a retreating scrum raised his side over the top of a gutted University 17-15, before Werchon then iced the match with a late penalty goal.
University, with a bold forward back five and even bolder centre Ethan McFarland leading the way, did enough to win.
But sometimes in rugby class overcomes all and Werchon’s four second dart on the narrowest of blindsides was the difference between a win and a loss.
Gosh it was a good try from behind a 5m scrum at a time when many were expecting the Brothers scrum to try and shunt their rivals backwards.
With this in mind, the University loose forwards remained locked fearing an eight man shove by their rivals.
But just as people were mesmerised at watching the University pack nudge back their rivals, Werchon struck.
University were up for the challenge from the start.
The Red Heavies gained some early momentum and off the back of a Will Robinson line out win, and then a rolling maul, hooker Quetin Raravula burrowed his way over.

Brothers first chance to pressure University on the scoreboard came off a wide, right sweeping movement to winger Nic Lloyd, but an inside ball was correctly ruled forward.
University’s bustling defence frustrated Brothers as the Heavies refused to allow Brothers to comfortably play their brand.
But one thing Brothers did very well all day was executive well off their set pieces, and it was from a lineout win that the foundation was laid for their first try to winger Ash Wilson.
From lineout ball flanker Kyle Schramm thrust forward, supported by fellow breakaway Mitch Lowrie.
Lowrie seemed certain to score, but Uni centre McFarland made a fantastic legs tackle.
Regardless, a quick flow of ball to halfback Werchon enabled the Brothers matchwinner to deliver a long, long pass to Wilson who reached out and scored despite attention from his opposite.

Brothers did strike back for a second time before the break - again from the foundation of a set piece - when steady scrum ball allowed Werchon and No.10 Harry Grant ball to put a surging outside centre Flynn Johnson in under the posts.
Into the second half Brothers tried to raise the tempo of the match, but University’s defensive work both at the breakdown and across the field was outstanding.
At one stage Brothers threw a 12 phase movement at their rivals, including Werchon chip kicking across field for Wilson, but University’s line was not breached.

University responded with its own wide passing movement, enabling McFarland to offer winger Hukula Malele-lafeta a wonderful pass for him to finish in the corner.
With the scores 15-12 and the clock winding inside four minutes, Brothers pressed again which resulted in Werchon being close enough to scamper for his match winning try.
University’s entire pack can take a bow, although lock Will Robinson and flanker Dougal Perrens were energetic, and Will Hay grand in the tight for University. Young lock Hugo Perceval also did a man’s job.
Red Heavies’ flanker Jon Burnett was also on track for a booming match until sustaining a head knock after a try saving legs tackle.
Although he spent 10 minutes in the sin bin for a lifting tackle, centre Ethan McFarland proved a threat along with fullback Oryaan Kalolo and wingers Rueben Mulipola and Hakula Malele-lefeta who give Uni strike power. Halfback McLeod McGee also got his side rolling.
Brothers forward back five of Conden, Bridgeman, Schramm, Lowrie and McCarthy probed all match, while fly half Harry Grant complemented his star No.9 and his creativity challenged University.
At Hugh Courtney Oval, a revitalised Norths scared the life out of Bond University before Bond prevailed 29-26.
What a match it was as Norths prop Josh Mongard and flanker Okaw Obonno lifted their side to great heights.
Norths coach Dan Ritchie felt his team shaded their rivals and did enough to win. “But we let ourselves down with poor game management that allowed them back into the game which was disappointing.’’
Bond needed all they class they possessed and fullback Ethyn Martin supplied it alongside hot-stepping fullback Dion Samuela and Esea Aholohea
At Chipsy Wood Oval, GPS accounted for Souths 38-19 in a high scoring match.
GPS backrower Nick Baker, who has been recognised by the junior Reds Academy, prop Peter Halapio and utility Tom Cox were best, while the match suited the attacking prowess of GPS No.10 Bas Ward.
Souths were best served yet again by elite halfback Sanni Siliva while fullback Henry Hourigan challenged GPS.
In the other match at Sunnybank, Tigers halfback Will Kirk was outstanding as Easts defeated Sunnybank 54-5. No.8 GJ Faulalo (Sunnybank) was best for the Dragons, earning a place in the tight five for the Team of the Week.
