Norths Eagles broke its duck in colts rugby while Bond University flexed it muscles to defeat University of Queensland in another exciting round on Saturday.

And Easts also confirmed its status as premiership contenders by downing the previously unbeaten Brothers at Brothers.

Norths wriggled its way ahead of Souths to win 22-12 while Bond Uni rebounded from last weekend’s shock loss to GPS to win 27-14 over 2020 grand finalist University of Queensland.

“We were really happy to get a win,’’ said Norths coach Dan Ritchie.

“It means a lot for the program and club after some tough seasons.

“We made things difficult for ourselves at times, but we did enough to win.’’

ROUND 4: Easts defeat Wests

In a beaten side Souths No.8 John Bryant, loyal to the core to the Magpies, made the team of the week.

Easts coach Tyrell Barker watched his side defend a halftime lead to beat Brothers in a semi-final type showdown.

It was nil-all for the entire second half after Easts had established a 15-10 advantage.

Tigers captain Charlie Scott led from the front.

Easts have now beaten Brothers and Wests in successive weeks and are the real deal.

Wests coach Rob Roiri had high praise for Sunnybank despite a 35 point win over the Dragons.

Roiri said it was the Sunnybank “of old’’ who took it to the Wests’ forwards.

He was delighted to see the desire of the Dragons because it would encourage that struggling side, while also testing his team.

He said it was important for the development of the squad that he blood some players and both boys responded to the challenge.

Sunnybank fullback Elgar Harrison was Eddie Keepa’s best player and earned Team of the Week selection.

Below is the Team of the Week.

We asked each coach for his best player and from that, a team was formulated.

For the purpose of the exercise, no hooker was nominated by the respective coaches, but four props were so one of those was pushed into the starting side at No.2 and the fourth prop chosen on the bench.

The same with fullback, with only one specialist winger nominated so a fullback was shifted to the edge of the backline.

It is a strong squad which represents the best players of the round.
