“This is capping off what has been an incredible year of tennis,’’ said Trent Steele, Tennis Excellence co-ordinator.

The victory followed Kelvin Grove’s girls winning the state championship and finishing fifth at the world championships in Italy earlier in the year.

The Kelvin Grove team included Javiera Castro Villagra, Jade Liebenberg, Lily Taylor, Martine Carroll, Sydney Stone, Lara Smith.

The win was a triumph for Villagra, a state representative, who has fought back from a wrist injury.

Smith was a renowned “quiet achiever’’ and this performance adds to an impressive CV while the win continued a golden period for Stone who has lived and breathed tennis since aged five.

The victory was a triumph for Liebenberg who returned to the tennis fray after a year and a half hiatus and like other members of the squad, gained tremendous experience competing at the world championship.

Carroll is No. 1 in Queensland for her age group and played an important role in the team’s win.

Lily Taylor is a national academy member who Steele described as a “smart person which helps her tactical and psychological side of tennis’’.

Earlier this year the squad members met world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty whose has risen to the top of the world rankings, but now the squad can reflect on their own lofty achievements.

The Kelvin Grove school’s boys team finished fifth in what Steele described as “a very close competition’’.

Indeed the boys had match point against Maryatville, one of the tournament favourites, but were unable to convert which emphasised the closeness of the contest.
