QGSSSA netball round 6: Exciting matches feature across the board

The Saints went Marching in as the QGSSSA Open Division netball premiership race hotted up. Results, best players from round 6 here.

Brisbane State High School is making a run for it in the Opens netball division, while St Peters, Moreton Bay College and St Margaret’s were chasing hard following round 6 action last weekend.

St Margaret rose to the occasion playing Moreton Bay College, bouncing back after a narrow defeat against Brisbane State High in the previous round.

St Margaret’s put up an incredible contest against netball dynamo MBC and managed to turn around a 13-goal differential in the second half to secure the win.

Central to St Margaret’s success were the defensive ball winning efforts of Syren Letizia and shooting accuracy of Goal Shooter, Sienna Small.

Coach Karen Brown said he was extremely proud of her team’s efforts and determination to close out the game.

The MBC Year 7 teams continued with the fantastic form we have seen from them so far this season, with all three teams taking home convincing wins against competitive St Margaret’s sides.

Both the 7A’s and 7B’s piled on 47 goals in their victories, with Ashley Stariha, Charlie Stickney, Ava Sherer and Ella Hedge among the best players for their respective teams.

The 7C’s put in a wonderful team effort, with Lucy Baisden and Phoebe Smith the standout performers.

The 8A’s continued their undefeated season with a good win over a spirited St Margaret’s line-up, with Hayley Yeates and Emerson Green combining well in the defensive circle, and Akeisha Wise playing a great game through the mid-court.

St Margaret’s year 9 teams had a great day on the court, with wins in the 9A and 9B games, keeping their season ambitions alive.

The Year 10 MBC teams also had a good day out with the 10B’s pulled away in the second half to finish off as 14 goal victors, Eve Watson, Eliza Thomas and Lauren Kennish, all having impressive games.

The 10A’s cemented their position as the team to beat in their division, with a fifth consecutive 25 plus victory in a row.

Tegan Hamilton was playing a fantastic game in centre until going down with injury mid-game, Poppy Reed was a rock in defence, and Renee Marchant was the team’s best on the day, cutting through the attacking end with strong drive all match.

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar played Brisbane Girls Grammar with the Ipswich Senior B team continuing their winning streak, and the Ipswich Open Team defeating BGGS by 10 points in a hard-fought match.

There was a stellar mid-court effort by Jessica Fitzgerald and fantastic defending by Neve Payne, both year 11 Ipswich Girls’ Grammar students who are strengthening each week as the season rolls on.

St Peters played Brisbane State High School at Cannon Hill District Netball Association, in a clash netball fans have been waiting for, a huge day of netball with all teams having a game on the day.

St Peters won 10 from the 16 games, there was one draw and BSHS took the honours in five games including the Open game.

In the Open match Brisbane State High proved too strong in all 4 quarters as St Peters struggled to catch any flow down the court, allowing BSHS goals to dominate via quick ball movement and direct passing.

St Peters goal shooter Sian Zeelie brought on a spark at half time, picking up a high volume of shots in quick succession, with Renee Cubby being St Peters best centre court player and Leilani Fatialofa performing well in goalkeeper.

QGSSSA Netball moves into Round 7 this Saturday.
