A Year 7 student has been pulled out of class by his mother after suffering a broken nose and jaw at his Brisbane high school.

Pam Carstens said she has asked Forest Lake High School to give her 12-year-old son Arthur work to do from home after the boy suffered broken bones allegedly at the hands of school bullies on two separate occasions.

She claims first incident where her son’s nose was broken during first break was back in February but the most recent was a month ago where she said Arthur suffered a broken jaw after “another blow” from a school bully.

Another Forest Lake school mother Hayley Ferguson said her Year 7 student Elizabeth came to the boy’s aid after no one else did.

“My daughter couldn’t believe nobody helped him, he was walking around, blood everywhere, dazed,” Mrs Ferguson said.

“It shocked Elizabeth, she was quite upset about it.

“It does appear they (the bullies) keep following Arthur around.”

Ms Carstens said her son had been treated on numerous occasions for concussion and was also struggling mentally to recover from the trauma.

“(A boy) threatened him last year and said he is going to kill him with a pair of scissors,” Ms Carstens said.

“My son’s mood has gotten really bad because of what has been happening.”

She said her son had also injured his foot during another incident, which required him to wear a moon boot.

“The medical (appointments) I have gone through has cost me the earth — I’m a single mum and I’m on a disability pension,” Ms Carstens said.

“(He is) too petrified to go back to school,” she said.

“The kids at the school are out of control.

“Forest Lake should have cops running it, that’s how bad it is.”

An Education Queensland spokesman said Forest Lake State High School was committed to providing a “safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment”.

“Any situation that threatens the safety and wellbeing of students, staff or others in the school community is treated extremely seriously, and dealt with as a matter of priority,” the spokesman said.

“Any students involved in unsafe or inappropriate behaviours are dealt with in line with the school’s Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students, which is developed in consultation with the local community.”
