Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre houses some of Queensland’s alleged serial stalkers, torturers and murderers while they are on remand.

It is a high security men’s remand correctional centre, where defendants are held while awaiting sentence or a trial.

The prison at Wacol, south of Brisbane, opened in 1992 and holds almost 900 inmates.

Some of the alleged offending by inmates includes a man charged with the murder of his own mother, after her body was discovered in the boot of a car, a pair who stabbed a bikie associate outside a gym and a couple who tortured and murdered their baby.

A violent bar brawl where a skull was fractured, a brutal hostage situation where a man was tortured and looted and a shotgun to the head of an ex-partner are some of the other alleged offences that saw these men remanded at Arthur Gorrie.

This list looks at the most serious alleged offending by inmates who are waiting in Arthur Gorrie prison before their matters are finalised.

None of the accused below have been to trial and each denies wrongdoing.

The son of Gold Coast woman Wendy Sleeman faced Brisbane Supreme Court charged with her murder, following her disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her body at a Brisbane unit complex in Windsor.

The body of Wendy Sleeman, 61, was found in the boot of her blue Honda Jazz in a Windsor garage on January 24 this year.

Slade Murdok, 30, denied any involvement in his mother’s disappearance.

A Brisbane man and woman prayed over their gravely injured baby boy, but police will allege they only called an ambulance the following day only after he had already died.

Police charged Reinhardt (Ryan) Bosch, 33, and his partner Noemi Kondacs, 22, with murder and torture on November 3 2022, following the death of their seven-month-old son Rhuan.

“I’ve been a detective for 30-odd years and it’s one of the most confronting scenes that I’ve seen,” said Detective Inspector David Jackman.

A Maroochydore man who allegedly used his position of power as a nightclub security guard to target women has been denied bail because of the “significant risk” he poses to the public.

Callum Luke Westcott Fisher, 23, is charged with a total of 84 offences, including deprivation of liberty, disabling in order to commit an indictable offence, entering dwelling with intent and stalking.

Mr Fisher was arrested in March, 2022 after police carried out their investigation into his alleged conduct against 13 victims, dating as far back as 2018.

Darryl Valroy Young appeared in Bowen Magistrates Court via video link on February 21 for his fourth mention since he was charged with a triple homicide in August 2022 at Bogie, west of Bowen.

Police allege Mr Young invited Mervyn Schwarz, 71, Maree Schwarz, 59, and Maree’s son Graham Tighe, 35, for a chat about a dispute over their property borderline and unbranded cattle.

He is accused of shooting them with a rifle at close range – killing them.

The brief of evidence on the murder charges and attempted murder charge relating to a fourth member of the family, Ross Tighe, was due on October 31.

His lawyer has pushed for court-ordered directions for outstanding case material linked to the triple homicide but police argued they were waiting for external agencies to provide material like ballistics, forensic and telecommunication reports.

The case was adjourned until February 28.

Wurtulla man Brandon Grant was charged with the murder of Feebie Poppy McIntosh in Dicky Beach after her death on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Police allege the tragedy unfolded just after 9am on Friday, May 27 when a “disturbance” occurred at a home on Coolum St, Dicky Beach.

Mr Grant faces one charge of murder, dangerous driving, two counts of possessing drugs, receiving tainted property, unlawful possession of a weapon and driving while SPER suspended.

He remains in custody at Arthur Gorrie and will return to Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 17 this year.

A Loganlea father allegedly shot at his partner and three other people in a car, held a shotgun to her head and beat her brutally, a court has heard.

Daniel Maric, 23, was denied bail at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 13, 2023 for charges of intending to maim or disfigure, grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon and unlawful stalking (domestic violence offences).

Text messages Maric allegedly sent incriminating him in the attack were read out to the court.

“I shot these shit-talking c---’s car up yesterday morning, we are now going for blood,” Maric allegedly said.

Maric was denied bail.

Bobby Andrew Weaver, 28, stands charged with the murder of his longtime neighbour and appeared at the Ipswich Magistrates Court on December 19, 2021 for a committal hearing.

Mr Thornton’s body was found buried in a freezer in his Goodna backyard in April 2019, after his family reported him missing in March.

Mr Weaver’s matter was adjourned to April 12 and 13 this year when nine witnesses will be cross examined.

The man police will allege was responsible for the stab wounds that killed bikie associate Levi Johnson has fronted court after police tracked him down 150km from the scene of the alleged brutal murder.

Birkdale man Kyle Martin, 24, appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on September 19, 2022, charged with one count of murder (serious organised crime).

It will be alleged Martin was one of four people who attacked Levi Johnson, 23, in a Goodlife car park at Mansfield on Monday, September 12, 2022.

Police allege Mr Martin was responsible for stabbing Mr Johnson six times and that he also brought the knife.

Luke Thomas Moore, 34, was also charged with murder for the same incident and remains in Arthur Gorrie too.

The man accused of fracturing Matthew Hawkins’ skull during a fight outside Gatton’s Commercial Hotel was denied bail after a magistrate ruled he posed an unacceptable risk to the community.

Charlie John Coveney, 26, stands accused of causing grievous bodily harm in a bust-up on Saturday December 3, 2022 that left Mr Hawkins fighting for his life in the Princess Alexandra Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Prosecutors told the court Mr Hawkins’ injuries were grave and he had undergone two surgeries to remove part of his skull and release pressure on his swollen brain.

Mr Coveney has not entered a plea to the charge.

A South East Queensland dad accused of holding a man hostage, torturing him, and having him transfer ownership of his car has told a magistrate he would “just like a chance” to be released from custody on bail.

Ty Jeffrey Hammant, 35, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court via video-link from custody on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 to apply for bail in relation to five offences alleged to have occurred on February 21.

The Wynnum West man is accused of keeping a man hostage and subjecting him to physical violence, before having him sign over a vehicle to him. The alleged victim was eventually found in a bedroom, “gagged and duct taped”.

The five “serious” charges laid against Hammant included assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, deprivation of liberty, unlawful wounding, extortion, and torture.
