The best school sports stars from Brisbane’s bayside have been revealed. We’ve highlighted more than 30 of the top youngsters for 2020 from the area. See who is on the list.

BE ready for the future because there are some sporting stars in the making coming from Brisbane’s bayside.

Quest Community News asked bayside high schools to name their brightest sports stars and here they are, with state, national and even global achievements behind them — these stars, who haven’t even finished school yet, are on track for big things in the future.

LIL DART – BASKETBALL

Lil has represented Queensland and has been part of the National Performance Program for the past two years. Selected as a member of the Australian squad to compete at the 2020 NBA Academy Showcase which was to be held in New Orleans, cancelled due to COVID-19. The best young hoops talents from across the world descend on the US to showcase their skills at the NBA Academy Showcase with college basketball and professional scouts also attending to see if the youngsters have what it takes at the next level. Lil also represented the North Gold Coast Seahawks at the Queensland Under-18 Championships in January, featuring as one of the top scorers for the tournament where her team finished fourth. She also helped lead MBC to a Division 2 gold medal at the Champion Basketball Schools of Queensland tournament in September last year. Lil was ready to help lead her state to a medal at the national championships this year before they were also cancelled because of the coronavirus.

KAYA AGNEW – CROSS COUNTRY

Kaya has experienced local success in road races, to 3km on the track, finishing with fifth place in the under-16 girls 4km at the Australian Cross Championships in Wollongong in 2019. With COVID-19 and all cross country events cancelled, Kaya is quietly preparing for an end of 2020 track season with her focus on a return to cross country racing in 2021.

KIARRA MILLIGAN – DIVING

Named in the national senior training squad and the “Dream 2428 Squad” which has been created to assist with the development of divers targeting future medals at the 2024 or 2028 Olympic Games. Competed in New Zealand at the Pacific Junior Diving Championships where she won gold in each of her three events.

LILY RICHARDSON – HOCKEY

Lily won a gold medal with the Queensland under-12 team in 2019 and was also a member of the Queensland under-13 hockey team last year. She was selected for the Queensland under-13 hockey squad 2020, where they are awaiting COVID restrictions to ease before National Championships are announced.

LYNETTE CHILDS – NETBALL

Lynette was a member of the Queensland under-17 netball team last year and was the youngest player in the Carina Leagues Tigers winning team in the Ruby Series/ She was also selected in the Queensland under-19 netball team this year.

SASKIA BROEDELET – RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

Saskia was the Australian Junior International Gymnast of the Year last year. She was also selected to represent Australia at the 2020 Oceania and Pacific Rim Championships, which were to be an Olympic qualifier. Saskia is also a member of the national squad. A member of Premier Gymnastics at Moreton Bay College, Saskia is on track to join the long list of athletes from the bayside who have competed at the highest level.

ELLIE RYAN – ATHLETICS

Ellie was a Queensland track and field representative in both 2018 and 2019, displaying she is a star of the future in the sport. Ellie also win a bronze medal in the 800m at the National Championships in December.

ABBY CRASWELL – ATHLETICS

Abbey is a multi-class athlete. In her classification, she holds the Australian All Comers record for long jump. She is currently on the watch list for Tokyo and will be eligible for the next Oceanic Games.

ERIN CROWLEY – SAILING

Erin us another sailing star in the making from the bayside with many athletes from the area competing at World Championships and Olympic Games in recent years. She was a Queensland representative at the nationals in Melbourne and was an Australian representative in the 2020 ILCA Women’s Radial World Championships held in Melbourne.

LILY PRICE – SWIMMING

Lily is only young but is already making waves in the pool, breaking records and winning gold medals. She is the highest ranked swimmer at Moreton Bay College. Erin won a gold and bronze at the State Championships and was exceptional in the 100m butterfly, breaking the minute mark.

MORETON BAY BOYS’ COLLEGE

CALLUM SEY – MOUNTAIN BIKING

Callum co-captained the Moreton Bay Colleges’ mountain biking team, where they defended their titles of Mountain Biking Australia Schools National Champions and Most Epic School at the Cycle Epic, where he had multiple placings in the top 10. Individually, Callum also competed in the Giant 3 Plus 3, where he placed third in the under-19 category, and he competed in the National Cup, where his final national ranking in the under-17 category was a very commendable seventh.

NASH BOAL – SWIMMING/AQUATHON

Last October, Nash was selected in the Met East team to compete in the Aquathlon at Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast. Nash also competed at the State Aquathlon Championships at Hervey Bay and qualified for the National Championships, which are scheduled to be held later in the year.

LUKE ROGERS – SAILING

Continuing the long line of talented sailors from the bayside is MBBC’s Luke Rogers, who stamped himself as a star of the future after being nominated for the 2019 Queensland Junior Male Sailor of the Year. Luke is a member of Manly’s Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, which has been the home of past Olympic medallists including multiple-time world champion and 2012 Olympic gold medal winner Mat Belcher. With a long list of achievements already under his belt, Luke has a bright future ahead of him.

JARROD JONES – WINDSURFING

Another star athlete on the water from the bayside is windsurfer Jarrod Jones. Jarrod tested himself against the best talents from around the globe after he competed in the Windsurfing World Championships in Spain in November. As well as the world championships, Jarrod has also competed at different events around Australia.

BADEN HAMMERMEISTER – ATHLETICS

Baden was selected in the Queensland Schools Track and Field team after placing first at the State Titles in the 15 years boys long jump, with a jump of 6.58m, a personal best by 20cm. At the Australian Athletics Nitro Challenge finals in Perth, Baden jumped 6.75m in the under 16 long jump, making him the national champion.

ALEX CONDON – TOUCH FOOTBALL

Alex is a rising star in touch football not only in the state but nationally. He played for the Australian under-18 youth team, which played New Zealand in Newcastle in January. In March, Alex was also named in the Queensland under-20s touch football team to play New South Wales in the 2020 State of Origin series in Coffs Harbour later this month, which has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

JACK MCINTOSH – VOLLEYBALL

Jack is the captain of the Iona College firsts volleyball team and was selected in the Australian under-16 squad to tour Thailand. The tour is currently up in the air due to COVID-19 but Jack has shown he is a great talent on the court but also is an exceptional leader as the skipper of the school’s team in the AIC competition.

LUKA WARLTERS & SAM SUDDABY – TRIATHLON

Luke Warlters and Sam Suddaby have stamped themselves as some of the best triathletes for their age in the state after making the Queensland Schools Triathlon team. Warlters is a member of the Sharks Triathlon Club based at Redlands and has also competed at several major events around Queensland and the country. Suddaby, from Alex Hills, was also selected in the Queensland Triathlon team for this past season. These pair of athletes train between 10-12 times a week preparing for major events with results proving their hard work in recent times.

HAYDEN SNELL – BASEBALL

Carina Redsox player and Iona College standout Hayden Snell continues the long line of athletes from the prestigious bayside school to represent his state after being selected in the Queensland Schools team. In recent years, Hayden has also been selected to represent several Brisbane Metro and Met East teams as well as other Queensland representative teams as well.

BEAU BROWN – RUGBY UNION

Iona College has produced its fair share of rugby union stars over the years and one person who could add to tat list in the near future is Beau Brown. Beau was recently picked to be a member of the Queensland Reds Academy – a breeding ground for the Super 15 club. But his state selections haven’t just started now, Beau has also played for the Queensland Junior Gold Cup team in 2019 in the national under-15s competition. The forward represented the Queensland Blue team at the tournament.

BEN GOEDEMANS, GIL GRIFFITHS, HAYDEN WASIAK & BEN GAROZZO – SWIMMING

This quartet of swimming sensations were close to competing in their biggest meet yet before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Ben, Gil, Hayden and Ben are highly ranked swimmers who were on track to qualify for the Olympic swim trials before the event was cancelled. But with the trials to be rescheduled for the near future, these Iona stars could have their chance to showcase their talent on one of the biggest stages.

BRISBANE BAYSIDE STATE COLLEGE

INDIANA KING – SWIMMING

Indiana is swimming superstar representing the Metropolitan East team at the state titles for 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley. She also qualified for Age Nationals for the 200m IM but unfortunately this was cancelled due to COVID-19.

SARAH MULHOLLAND – TRACK & FIELD

In 2019, Sarah represented the Bayside District as well as Metropolitan East for athletics, competing against the best talent from around the state at the Queensland Schools Championships. Her favourite events are the 100m sprint and the hurdles.

KALANI GRAHAM – JUDO

In a unique sport compared to most others, Kalani is a star in the martial art of judo. Kalani was very successful at the Queensland State Judo Championships last year, winning a silver medal. The youngster has also represented Queensland against the best judo players from around Australia.

SEAN GALLAGHER – ATHLETICS

Sean is an extraordinary para-athlete with a long list of achievements in athletics over the years. He has most recently achieved a silver medal in the under-20 javelin and a bronze medal in the under-20 discus events at the Australian National Athletics Championships.

BLAKE COLEMAN – AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL

Blake is one to watch in the AFL making the under-17 Queensland squad as well as the under-17 NAB All Stars Futures team, where he was also the winner of Keith Wallis Medal (Colts Best and Fairest 2019), stamping himself as one of the top up and coming prospects in Brisbane. The bayside has produced some AFL stars with Coleman showing he could be next.

LIAM DAVIS – DIVING

Southeast Queensland seems to be a breeding ground for superstar divers, who have gone on to big things at the World Championships and Olympic Games level and BBSC’s Liam David could be another one. Liam is a Platform Pacific Junior Diving Champion with a gold medal in the 10m platform at the Queensland championships in 2019. Liam is a member of the Queensland Academy of Sport diving team and won an Australian Elite Juniors Award back in 2017.
