He was held back to be the third change bowler, but he made up for lost time during an 8.1 over burst.

“Some of the boys said he hit the bat quite hard,’’ observed Sandgate-Redcliffe coach Vic Williams. “He bowled with good pace and hit reasonable areas.’’

Asked would he describe Hatherell was a genuine quick bowler, Williams replied: “He is not far off it.

“If he is not there yet, he is on the way. He is a good prospect.’’

During last season’s GPS cricket competition Hatherell, who played with Brisbane State High School, often bowled spells where the ball was hitting the bat before the batsman had time to position themselves for a shot.

After bowling the Gators out for 175, Wynnum replied with 258.

WESTS WOMEN WIN T20 GRAND FINAL

Tim Floros (85, 82 balls) counterattacked from 4-58 while Graham (60, 111 balls) was the perfect foil. Batting a second time, Sandgate-Redcliffe managed an improved 4-157.
