Wests all-rounder Meaghan Dixon earned special praise from coach Ben Maddox by taking two crucial wickets against Uni while also top scoring with 38.
Josie Dooley (33) also batted splendidly despite an outstanding bowling effort by University’s Jessica Jonassen (2-15) and Charni Bloxsom (2-26).
Maddox also praised captain Kirby Short who continued to sprinkle magic dust around after earlier in the season leading Heat to a successive WBBL title.
“Kirby is just so passionate about the game and driven and really loves being involved. She really takes a lot of pleasure in coming back to club cricket and playing with our group.
“She comes back with the desire to perform well at club level and sees the value in that and takes a lot of pride in leading the younger girls and showing them what it is all about in club land.’’
Wests lost star all-rounder Grace Harris for Sunday’s decider after she aggravated a knee injury in Saturday’s semi-final clash.
Harris scored 42 in the semi-final win and Short 32 before Annie Wikman (20) and Holly Furling (26) came in with some big hitting.
Jonassen, outstanding with the ball, also threatened with the bat for Uni, scoring 42 before Dixon had her caught and bowled.
Ashleigh Sims (3-13) then mopped up the tail.
Courtney Sippel was also outstanding for Wests (2-10, three overs).
In Saturday’s semi-final, Wests’ pace bowler Holly Furling (3-16) shone after Mikayla Hinkley (19) top scored for Valley.
University progressed into the grand final after Laura Harris (108, 42 balls) had blasted a tremendous century in Saturday’s semi-final win over the Gators.
