Police have charged a 58-year-old man after he allegedly tried to spear an acquaintance during an argument at East Brisbane.

Police alleged that at 1.50am on November 27 two men, who were known to each other, became involved in a verbal argument at a unit in Vulture St before one stabbed the other with a spear.

A bystander came to the aid of the victim and they both managed to disarm the alleged offender, who sustained injuries in the struggle.

Emergency services attended and transported the 47-year-old victim to hospital for treatment for a non-life-threatening wound to his upper chest.

The 58-year-old has been charged with attempted murder and burglary with circumstances of aggravation (actual violence).

Bail was refused and the man was due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, December 6.
