Liam Glidden: Carina teen in Supreme Court after MDMA bust

A young Brisbane man has pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to possessing thousands of dollars’ worth of a notorious party drug, which he was addicted to and selling.

A Brisbane teenager has fronted the court after a police search of his body revealed a copious amount of a notorious party drug shoved down the front of his trousers.

Carina man Liam James Glidden, 19, a former resident of the Redlands who attended Alexandra Hill State High School, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to one count of possessing a Schedule 1 dangerous drug, MDMA, in a Schedule 3 quantity.

The court heard the offence occurred on January 20 last year at Capalaba.

Glidden, a passenger in a car, was searched after police pulled the vehicle over and denied possessing anything illegal.

However, when he pulled his waistband out during the search, police could see a “large clipseal bag in his underwear” containing 41.36g of a brown crystal substance, 27.962g of which was pure MDMA.

Crown prosecutor Elise Adams told the court the drugs had a street value of between $3000 – $6200.

She said the drugs had a “commercial purpose”, although noted that the Crown accepted the submission that the drug-addicted Glidden would have consumed some of it himself.

The offence occurred while Glidden was on bail for other unrelated matters.

He spent 16 days remanded in pre-sentence custody.

Defence counsel Jenna Johnson told the court her client was battling a “significant drug addiction” at the time of the offence and has made “significant efforts at rehabilitation”.

She said her client was looking for work after previously working in concreting and asbestos removal.

Glidden was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment with immediate court-ordered parole.
