A Logan barber’s life has turned upside down after she made the fateful decision to hop behind the wheel without an interlock device to ensure had no blood-alcohol, a court has heard.

Loganholme woman Sharnie Elise Henry, 27, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday to driving a vehicle which was not fitted with a prescribed alcohol ignition interlock.

The court heard the offence occurred at Main St, Beenleigh about 6.25pm on September 28 last year when Henry was driving from the gym to a friend’s house.

A licence check revealed Henry was required to drive in a vehicle which was fitted with an interlock for a two-year period between March 30, 2019 and March 29, 2022.

Henry told police she had just bought a new car which had not yet been fitted for the device, the court heard.

The court was told Henry’s life had been turned upside down since her charge and the mandatory disqualification it entailed.

She had to quit a three-year apprenticeship at a barbershop on the Gold Coast, leaving her out of work; withdraw her younger child from kindergarten; and move from Shailer Park to Loganholme to be closer to her older child’s school.

Henry was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $600.

She was warned she would be facing imprisonment if busted driving during the disqualification period

Henry was previously before the court on September 30, 2019, where she pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor and obstructing police.

On that occasion, she was fined $1100 and disqualified from driving for six months.

A conviction was recorded on the driving UIL charge but not the obstructing police charge.
