The court heard the 26-year-old was at a Wynnum West Tavern where he, four men and a woman began fighting with a man known to them.

“Police received a call reporting a fight in progress and the sounds of two gunshots,” police prosecutor Sergeant Jeanette Harry said.

“A resident reported a fight with several males armed with steel bars.”

Police found Condran later after he drove off from the tavern.

“The defendant was found lying in the boot of the vehicle, only wearing underwear,” Sergeant Harry said.

“In the boot of the vehicle police located a plastic bag with .22 ammunition (and) also gloves.”

Mr Condran’s lawyer, Ben Taylor, said he took part in the fight to support his sister.

“He was there as a big brother for his sister,” Mr Taylor said.

“He accepts completely that this is stupid and completely dangerous behaviour.”

Magistrate Zachary Sarra said Condran’s actions were idiotic.

“They are driving around with knives, guns and steel bars, who do they think they are?” Mr Sarra said.

“Over someone’s broken heart, this idiot could have been in jail for the rest of his life, charged with murder.

“The old saying you never take a knife to a gunfight, he’s taken both a gun and a knife.

“You’ve got to be smarter with this sort of stuff.”

Condran was convicted and sentenced to 12 months’ jail, with nine months’ probation.
