The court heard while working at a Greenslopes obesity clinic, Tait used prescriptions to obtain drugs for herself and billed it to her employer.

There were more than 270 transactions adding up to in excess of $13,000 in total between November 1, 2020 to April 12, 2021.

The court heard Tait had since been dismissed from her employment from the Greenslopes obesity clinic as a result of her offending.

Tait’s lawyer said his client had no criminal history and described the offending as out of character for her.

“My client had been prescribed Stilnox on a long-term basis as she suffers from chronic insomnia,” he said.

“The general practitioner terminated the prescription of the Stilnox … and my client felt that she needed to keep on using Stilnox which caused her to do what she did, which is obviously a significant breach of trust.”

He said Tait was now looking to join the Australian Army as a warehouse operations specialist.

She was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid community service. No convictions recorded.
