The owner of a popular venue which helped spark a bayside town’s revamp into a growing entertainment scene has claimed Wynnum’s best bar.

Cedar and Pine Bar along Wynnum’s popular Bay Tce won the inaugural competition, headed by master chef Matt Preston, after receiving the most votes from Wynnum Herald readers.

Owned by baysider Mali Hannun, who was recently named one of the suburb’s most influential people, Cedar and Pine is a part of the now booming night-life precinct in both Wynnum and Manly.

“Being voted the best venue is obviously really nice, I sometimes think people must get sick of hearing about Cedar and Pine, as there’s always a lot of hype around it.

“But I’m also very proud of my little bar and also my local community who have been amazing since I opened in 2015.

“I’m also a big fan of the other venues that were in the running for best venue that were equally deserving of this award.

“The bayside night-life is steadily growing and the offerings we now have with bars, brewery’s cinemas and more which is pretty exciting.

“I’m not big on ‘competition’ as such because I genuinely believe for Wynnum to prosper we need more and more options and attractions, there is plenty of room for all of us to shine.”

Ms Hannun said you couldn’t pinpoint what makes Cedar and Pine so special.

“I think what sets Cedar and Pine apart is we’re really more than just ‘a bar’.

“You just have to come and experience it for yourself.

“I’m proud of a lot of things, but if I had to be specific I take pride in customer service and value getting to know everyone who comes into the bar.

“I also genuinely love doing the little things that help create memorable nights in the bar.”

Ms Hannun also recently completed renovations during the Covid shutdown last year, which she said has been a massive hit among customers.

“The recent renovations have added to how amazing the space is. Almost everyone that comes in for the first time is surprised to see what’s actually hidden behind this little door on Bay Tce,” she said.

“I feel so lucky to be as appreciated as I am in the community.

“It always amazes me the love the bar gets, the messages I receive, people stopping me in the shops telling me how my Facebook posts make their day.

“So I guess as long as people keep loving what we do, I’ll continue to do it, and it’s pretty special that I love being able to provide a venue where people feel the love and happiness that we create.”
