HOLD on to your beer because Brisbane could have a new, picturesque hub for breweries.
With DogTap, from Scottish company Brewdog, already opening in Murarrie last year, two new breweries set to launch in Wynnum could provide another major boost for this rising area.
A new microbrewery at 28 Gibbs St, Wynnum from Hudson Brewing has already been approved by the Brisbane City Council with another one planned to rejuvenate the old fish markets at 18 Fox St, Wynnum currently being assessed by council.

COUNCIL SAYS NO TO NEW HUNGRY JACK’S
Councillor for Wynnum Manly (ALP) Peter Cumming said he expected the Fox St development to go ahead.
He also said he believed the area was perfect to become the latest hub for breweries in Brisbane.
“I really do think the bayside is a great area for these types of venues, especially with everything happening around it like the Wynnum Cinema development,” Cr Cumming said.
“I believe that if the Fox St and Gibbs St venues are successful, which I think they will be, that it’ll attract more microbreweries to come down this way and why not, it’s a great location.
“The bayside in the future with these types of developments could become like Fortitude Valley or the other parts of Brisbane that feature a lot of venues like this.”
The Hudson Brewing venue on Gibbs St was approved in September last year with the people behind the development now negotiating a new lease for the property.
Richard Hudson from Hudson Brewing said there were no real plans for the start date of construction or completion of the development as of yet.
On the other hand, the microbrewery planned for Fox St would be a welcome sight for bayside residents after the location was left derelict for more than eight years following the closure of the old fish markets.
During the community consultation period, the development application did receive some negative submissions from some residents, claiming noise would be an issue in such a high density residential area.
But the application also received more than 100 positive comments.
Cr Cumming said if those issues were taken into consideration by the developers, revitalising the site would be great news for Wynnum.
