Ben Castner to open Laid Back Burgers at Moreton Town shopping centre
After the closure of a popular cafe earlier this year, a shopping centre in Brisbane’s southeast has received a major boost with a new American and Mexican-style restaurant coming to the precinct.

A suburban shopping centre in Brisbane’s southeast is about to get a little more urban with a new American and Mexican-style burger restaurant.
Moreton Town shopping centre at Tingalpa, which already offers Aldi and Chemist Warehouse, will welcome a tasty new addition in Laid Back next week.
Laid Back is an eatery from local resident Ben Castner and will feature burgers, tacos, fries and mac and cheese – the first of its kind in the area.
Mr Castner joins the precinct after four years in the hospitality industry and being involved in restaurants with an array of cuisines.
“The inspiration for this restaurant comes from loving these food types but not having many, if any, options in the area,” Mr Castner said.
“I really feel that bringing this combination of food with my fun and open style of service is exactly what baysiders are looking for.
The restaurant is a welcome addition for the Moreton Town shopping centre after the closure of popular cafe, the Smokin’ Goat, in February.
The Smokin’ Goat was one of the area’s most popular cafes and was even named Wynnum’s best in 2021.
Laid Back will have an urban feel with a colourful interior as Mr Castner looks to provide the area with something different.
“We are aiming to open next week but we still have a little bit of work to be done like cleaning and setting up,” Mr Castner said.
“We are so pumped to be a part of such a growing area and great community.”
Laid Back will be located at 1795 Wynnum Rd.
