The Tropicarnage Cup 2024 is ready to slap some wheels on your King’s Birthday long weekend and crank up the excitement to 11.
The Mount Warren Sports Centre will transform into an international roller derby battlefield as 16 teams from Australia and New Zealand go toe-stop to toe-stop in a three-day roller-skating showdown from Saturday, October 5 to Monday, October 7.
Festivities roll off Friday when skaters clash in a special pre-tournament bout, pitting the “Tropics” against the “Carnage” in a gender-inclusive derby duel.
The roller disco of destruction celebrates 13 wild years of the Tropicarnage Cup, which is the appetiser for the main event.
Competition heats up faster than a hot quad skate on a smooth track on Saturday at 8.30am with teams of five, including stars Jammers and the unyielding Blockers with both battling it out in the fast-paced, full-contact frenzy.
Many homegrown heroes will make appearances clutching silver medals and ready to roll after returning from last month’s successful World Skate Games in Italy.
Organisers said the event was not just a tournament and the roller derby carnival was designed to entertain with thrills, spills, and possibly a few face-plants as teams from across the ditch and down under converge in Logan.
