From humble beginnings, a small leagues club on Brisbane’s west side has grown into a popular powerhouse with plans to expand further now revealed.
The Arana Leagues Club is set to receive a makeover as well as expand its offerings at the Keperra clubhouse.
The club on Dawson Rd is steeped in history, with a group of parents first rallying together in 1969 founding the West Arana Hills Junior Rugby Leagues Club.
In 1972, with a little help from the Brisbane City Council, the club relocated to their current location which was formerly a vacant cow paddock.
A development application has now been lodged with the council for refurbishment of the existing facilities.
Designed by BSPN Architecture, the proposal seeks expand the undercover outdoor lounge and alfresco
dining areas.
The development also proposes a mezzanine level to be added to the 47786sq m site to maximise viewing onto the main field.
According to the planning report, the works also includes a proposed car park and facade facelift to “provide architectural interest and reduce the bulk and scale of the proposal”.
The frontage of the clubhouse will receive a facelift, with improved access to the clubhouse provided for pedestrians, via a new entrance plaza and drop off facility.
The report notes, “the proposal will create an aesthetically pleasing facade with a high architectural quality design that will create an appropriate subtropical climatic response for the site.”
“Overall, the building will incorporate an interesting, but consistent exterior, which will not conflict with surrounding residential uses”.
