SCHOOL LEADERS 2020 SUBMISSION FORM
ALBANY CREEK STATE HIGH SCHOOL
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: LAURA MCLENNAN AND ZACH NEILSEN
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
As leaders, our role is to motivate people to act towards achieving a common goal. However to us, it is something far greater. Leadership is about giving. It’s about serving our community, which means working for and supporting each and every one of you. Leadership is about listening. It’s about voicing your concerns, and ensuring your voice is heard, and valued. Finally, leadership is about empowering and inspiring, in order to build up others to become leaders themselves. Throughout the year, we aim to facilitate your success, and help you to forge your own path. So, whether you have received a badge today or not, know that leadership is not a position or title, but actions and examples. Seniors of 2020, our cohort has experienced many “firsts”. We were the first year 7s at high school, the first to experience the new ATAR system, and we will be the first group to spend 6 years at high school. We have 170 days to leave our mark, whether it’s in the form of leaving a legacy or building on the strong culture of our great school, I invite you to join us on this journey.
During these 170 days, we promise to:
- lead the school with respect, responsibility and resilience
- represent the school community in its entirety with great pride
- represent the student body and their interests
- continue to construct and uphold the legacy left behind from former students and student leaders.
AMBROSE TREACY COLLEGE, INDOOROOPILLY
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: THOMAS PERISSINOTTO, MITCHELL BRADSHAW AND RORY KERR
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
As the leaders of the newest Catholic boys’ school in Brisbane, our priority this year will be the formation of the school’s culture. While our Junior School has over 80 years of tradition, our high school is only in its second year, so we are committed to shaping the foundations of our new traditions. One of the traditions we are focussed on is connecting and building relationships across the Junior, Middle and Senior schools. By building strong relationships, meeting with younger students on a regular basis, engaging them in lunchtime games and being strong role models, we aim to be authentic, approachable leaders. By modelling courage, inclusivity and integrity through our leadership roles, we aim to embrace and celebrate diversity and be upstanders in society.
The motto for this year is to “Look Good, Feel Good and Do Good”. We plan to implement this motto through encouraging boys to look good by wearing their uniform with pride, and to feel good by looking after their mental health and spreading optimism and compassion throughout our community. In terms of doing good, Service is key to our leadership. Guided by the words of Matthew 20:26, “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant”, we aim to lead through our service, helping those in need. Service, authenticity and traditions will be the hallmarks of our leadership in 2020 and we hope to create a legacy that inspires ATC students to strive for their personal best and achieve a brighter future.

BRIBIE ISLAND STATE SCHOOL
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: ALEXANDER HISTROV, GEORGIA COLLIER, KEZIA WILLIS, JASIAH PARATA-TIMALOA
At Bribie Island State School, every year our School Captains, Leaders and Peer Mentors exceeds the expectations of commitments and enthusiasm to their roles and duties. We promote and support a positive school culture by empowering our leaders with the skills, understanding, attitude and strategies to improve leadership attributes.
In order to develop dynamic proactive leaders, every year our leaders are provided with two opportunities to participate in training programs. The initial training is an introduction to the development of effective knowledge and skills that is delivered at the end of year five by an experienced teacher who has been working with student leaders over 20 years. The day program was filled with activities that promote teamwork, developing communications skills and focus on traits and qualities that make a good leader. The second is a leadership program presented by the Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP) reinforcing the core of what it takes to be a leader in the first week back to school year 6 to ensuring that the year starts with a positive clear common goal.
After learning the importance of fostering positive interactions between lower and upper school students in a play-based environment. They practice these skills in the ongoing Bribie Island State School ‘Buddy Play’ Program. Buddy Play Program plays an important role in helping to create a safe school environment allowing the development of relationship between upper and lower school. The program teaches and gives students the opportunity to practice the important values of respect, turn taking, valuing differences, responsibility and friendship.
It is evident that the Buddy Play Program strengthens the school community, creating connectedness between older and younger buddies to make Bribie Island state school a safe learning environment. However, most importantly, our school leaders develop key skills in resilience, assertiveness, decision making and problem solving become a positive role model at Bribie Island State School.
BRISBANE ADVENTIST COLLEGE, MANSFIELD
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: JOHNNY MENE AND SARAH COLQUHOUN
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
Earlier this year, Brisbane Adventist College students were challenged by principal Mrs Entermann to employ not just 20/20 vision in 2020, but extraordinary vision. “The way we choose to see the world creates the world we see,” she said, quoting Barry Kaufmann from The Option Process. “Our vision for BAC in 2020 is to become more than simply a good school—it’s to be a true community. The environment we are building is one in which every student, every parent and every staff member feels happy and proud to consider themselves part of. Student leadership is part of this and requires more than a title, a role, and a task list. School leaders must embark on a journey of personal growth and this is what we focus on through mentor meetings and leadership camp.”
BAC captain, Sarah Colquhoun: “As college captain in 2020, I want every student to feel heard and included in our community. Rather than leading from the sidelines, I want to be involved with the students, building community.”
BAC captain Johnny Mene: “As college captain, my vision for 2020 is that we live out our motto ‘Everything with God’, because, with God, anything is possible. Whoever sets foot on our school grounds, whether a new student, a visitor or parent, I want them to feel welcome and a sense of belonging.”
BRISBANE BOYS’ COLLEGE, TOOWONG
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: ALISTER GOMERSALL, ARCHIE BROMELL AND BENJAMIN WARD
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
“The Brisbane Boys’ College student theme for 2020 is ‘As One’, which we believe encapsulates the best of BBC. Because the idea that we as a College are one, that we are bonded together by the Green, White, Black, isn’t tied to one event, it permeates through everything we do.
Whether it’s helping a younger student who’s struggling with their timetable, helping your mate understand a question in class, or supporting your brothers at Grand Concert, everything we do must be as one.
The strength of this school has always been found in our diversity and no one person can lead this school.
Our strength has always been in how we come together and utilise each other’s unique backgrounds and skills. And that begins in the classroom, in the locker area, in the playground, in small insignificant conversations. Because if we can be a family that builds each other up when no one is watching, we will be a force to reckon with – a unit that supports and fights for each other when the whole world is watching.”
- Alister Gomersall, College Captain 2020

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
The legacy we wish to leave Canterbury at the end of 2020 is not in relation to physical assets but by setting high standards for student leadership. This legacy is underpinned by developing the vision of a connected College: In and Out.
A Connected Community: In
- Ensure the student leadership team helps create a safe and supportive environment, where students feel comfortable to take steps out of their comfort zone, with a strong focus on mental health, forming friendships and developing strong supportive connections.
- Enhance the depth of College spirit with an improved focus on House spirit through intra- and inter-house competitions.
- For the student leadership team to have a visible presence at Canterbury events helping to drive energy, enthusiasm and spirit amongst the student body.
- Developing a strong sense of community as a connected Canterbury across the Junior and Secondary Schools.
A Connected Community: Out
- By developing the connectedness within the College, we hope that Canterbury will be able to develop strong and sustainable external community links.
- The student leadership team realises how fortunate we are being at such an outstanding school and hope to make a difference in the wider community through volunteering and fundraising projects.
The focus of 2020 projects is establishing connections within community organisations so Canterbury can champion their cause and model servant leadership by volunteering. This will be supported with fundraising throughout the year and supporting awareness days such as Bullying! No Way Day and RU OK? Day.

CLAYFIELD COLLEGE, CLAYFIELD
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: SOPHIA KELLY, GEORGIA LENNON
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
Clayfield might be a small school, however, we have a massive heart and our goal for 2020 is to grow and unite our special school community further. This year we have the vision that the primary school creates closer ties with the secondary school; that students develop positive relationships with their teachers; that girls get more involved with sport, music, community service and other co-curricular activities; that girls acknowledge all the awesome little things that people around them do daily. This year we seek to unite the Clayfield Community through a common goal and purpose. Thus, our theme for 2020 is to “unlock your purpose.” We believe that the way for the Clayfield Community to unlock their purpose is to go out of their comfort zone, serve the wider community, acknowledge random acts of kindness, encourage others to grow and to grasp every opportunity. All Clayfield girls and boys are incredibly lucky to belong to a community that nurtures all of our individual goals and passions; however, with one common goal we can unlock our united purpose and achieve something truly great as a school community in 2020.

GRACE LUTHERAN COLLEGE
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: JAMES LEE, TEAGAN METHORST, AIDAN ORSINI AND TIGER LILY CHAU
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
A true leader is someone as great as the people they serve in their community. They don’t
choose to stand above or in front, but among their peers as an equal. As 2020 School
Captains, we believe in leadership that values compassion and confidence, as well as integrity and selflessness. The privilege of serving as a captain goes beyond the badge and is a chance to ignite change. It is the chance to be someone who listens and is available to those who seek to express their voice. In our final year of school, we want to uphold the feeling of being loved, included and empowered. To be leaders who are mentors and who instil positivity at every given opportunity. To live a life full of love, would be the most adequate form of a life well-lived. This year we want to continue the legacy of the previous captains. Our goal is to inspire change in the Grace culture. Journeys at Grace evolve and we hope for our fellow student’s experience at Grace to be similar to our own – to have an honest passion and happiness for coming to school. As a group, we truly believe that Grace has been a foundation for our growth as young adults.
The ‘2020 vision’ is to promote the excitement and enthusiasm students should feel when
coming to school and growing in Grace, and that, as a leadership team, we demonstrate,
promote and encourage our values of Grit Growth and Grace.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
Following their official induction at the Prefects Investiture in early February, this year’s Captains, Paul Bletchly and Lauren Sullivan took to the podium. Lauren spoke of the honour of her induction as College Prefect and their wish, as captains, to inspire their fellow students to demonstrate commitment in every aspect of college life: academic, cultural, school community, social justice and sporting.
Quoting Dr Seuss, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it is a memory”, Lauren encouraged all to make each moment count. Paul too reflected on the importance of getting involved, of being yourself and doing what makes you, you. He encouraged his peers to think about their capacity to radically change the future by doing something that their future self will be thankful for. Both captains strongly encouraged their fellow students to be proud… “proud of yourself, to be proud of your peers and to be proud of your school”.

Motivated by the words of Mary MacKillop, “little did either of us dream of what was to come from so small a beginning,” we believe our actions of today can spark great impact on the shape of our tomorrow.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we envision endless opportunities which will enable our MacKillop women to shine, embracing all that makes us who we are and as women who are making a world of difference.

OUR LADY’S COLLEGE, ANNERLEY
SCHOOL CAPTAINS: NIKKI NGUYEN AND ELLA GILBERT
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
We, the 2020 seniors of Our Lady’s College, pledge to wholeheartedly embody the core College values of tradition, excellence and community through our words and actions. As we follow in the footsteps of the leaders who have gone before us, we will continue to inspire the College community by leading with wisdom, kindness and commitment.
This year, we shall endeavour to be positive and inclusive role-models for our younger sisters. We will value and support those around us and be grateful for the many opportunities we are blessed with. We will strive to grow, not only as individuals but as a cohort and will face all challenges as a team. We will be vocal and unified when standing up for those who do not have a voice and we will work towards equity for all.
As your leaders for 2020, we will model and live out compassion, justice, service and integrity, looking to the example of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop as we support the OLC community through her wise words: ‘Never seeing a need without doing something about it.’
We are not just a year level, but a sisterhood, who aspire to inspire. In the green and gold, we will laugh, cry, study and celebrate together on our journey to success, in this, our final year. Above all we will create a legacy to be proud of, one which we hope will continue long after 2020.

We are PC. At Padua College, we hear that chant, often after a well-earned victory. Open our College website, and you will see the words ‘We are Padua’. But what exactly is a Paduan? As a College Community, we should pride ourselves on being inclusive of everyone. As Leaders of our College Community in 2020, we are given the opportunity to inspire others in our College, and encourage all our Padua brothers, to be inclusive of each other. Honoured to serve the students and staff, our vision for our College Community in 2020 is to model the values of joy, courtesy, simplicity, humility and peace. These values model a Paduan.
This year, throughout all opportunities offered within Padua - sporting, academic, and cultural - we also embrace the rebirth of all our College Houses, which will take on their own spirit as we lead them through 2020. In every opportunity our great College provides, our continued inclusivity of one another proves, We are PC, with every student making this great College what it is. Whether you are in a first team, or a colours team. You are Padua. Whether you are working towards a trade or working towards university. You are Padua. Whether you are in Year 5 or Year 12. You are Padua. To be a real Paduan, to us, means to be proud. Paduan and Proud. In 2020, our vision incorporates these two words working alongside each other, as we embrace our brotherhood chant, We are PC.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
As the school leaders in 2020, we often ask ourselves, what is the purpose behind our actions? What positive impact can we leave on the future students, leaders and teachers? We aim to create a positive environment for students and teachers alike, where everyone feels they are part of a community. Every week, students across all grades focus on different respect goals, as leaders of the school we focus on these and ensure they are being followed positively. The respect program created by teachers, aims to help students develop themselves on a personal and professional level in regards to behaviour, social skills and representing the school in the community. As leaders we have gone through our high schooling career with this program, so are happy to positively enforce it through the leading of our school. As leaders we aim to get maximum participation across all areas of schooling, from sport to academic, cultural to community activities. As leaders, we are going to put as much effort as possible into evolving the school more than it already is. We want to encourage students in all aspects across the board and ensure we are leaving a legacy for future leaders to continue in further years.

ST AUGUSTINE’S COLLEGE, AUGUSTINE HEIGHTS
SCHOOL LEADERS: KATELYN SMITH AND LACHLAN HOLTER
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
Our 2020 vision is closely linked to our College theme for this year; centred around the idea of being present – in particular, being present in truth, unity and love – which are our College’s Augustinian values. This year, we stress the value and importance of which every single day holds, challenging our College community to use the full potential of every day. We encourage everyone (staff, students, parents/carers, and friends alike) to work together – breaking down barriers and obstacles – in order to make a real difference in our community. Our 2020 vision is one of a more seamless P-12 community; a community in which the divisions between precincts has been lessened. It is our hope that by coming together, as one united front, we can not only make a difference this year, but also build the foundations for our College to continue evolving for years to come. By coming together, we can make real progress in various areas; including but not limited to: being a greener, more sustainable school, and inclusivity - with better representation of culture and identity. Having only just started the school year, it is exciting to see initiatives and ideas that are already getting underway – and it is even more exciting to see how many ideas the Student Leaders of 2020 have for the rest of the year. Ultimately, our hope is that everyone in our College community seizes the year for all that it offers.
ST JOHN’S ANGLICAN COLLEGE, FOREST LAKE
SCHOOL LEADERS: VIRAJ SASHANKAN AND SANVI MEHTA
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
The school policy is a mantra that we have created representing the message that the seniors are intending to convey over the course of the year. What was apparent to us was our strong sense of belonging and community spirit that has been cultivated throughout our College life.
Being at this school, we have been blessed enough to experience real connections; friends that we’ll treasure forever and teachers we’ll never forget. We love that sense of family and community we feel every day when we come here. We believe that’s what makes our school special, we have the privilege of being a smaller school that has a tight-knit community. That’s why we believe this mantra is perfect for the year ahead. At its core, this message is about how if we all work together, we can make a better tomorrow not only for us and our school community, but for the world.
Our first ever School Policy is therefore now announced as ‘Together for Tomorrow!
The purpose of our policy has been constructed to create a sense of community and family within our College. We will have several opportunities and challenges thrown our way, stepping out of our comfort zone to run a race for your House, or just helping someone get to their class, we encourage every single individual to step up, be involved in everything that presents itself and help us celebrate our togetherness that makes us St John’s while making 2020 a year to remember.
ST JOHN FISHER COLLEGE, BRACKEN RIDGE
SCHOOL CAPTAIN: RAHEMA MACDONALD
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
I aspire to see every girl in our College flourish this year. For every new friendship formed, for every new talent and hobby that is found, for every personal goal achieved and for every girl who has the courage to be confident in her own abilities, the world as we know it becomes that little bit better. I hope to be an inspirational leader for our school by serving to the best of my ability. I aim to lead a united cohort inspiring, empowering and leading our St John Fisher College community together.
As a year 12 cohort, I believe that with persistence and courage, we will be the best role models and personally inspire girls from the younger grades. We have the potential to do this and I will take advantage of that. I challenge our girls to take risks, step out of their comfort zones and get involved within the community. This year, I would like to embrace our girls’ individuality and unite them to lead an inclusive community of like-minded girls who support and empower each other. In doing so, we will be ready to take on the world in unimaginable ways and brighten up the lives of those around her - It can only do wonders for us.

ST PETERS LUTHERAN COLLEGE, INDOOROOPILLY
SCHOOL LEADERS: BEN ROBERTON, ALARA SLATTERY AND ZAC ROBINSON
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
College spirit, support and no regrets—the 2020 College and Vice Captains at St Peters Indooroopilly have wasted no time in establishing their vision for the year, and it’s one that will leave a legacy long beyond their graduation. “We want to build on the history of school spirit at St Peters,” said Ben (College Captain). “And show one another support because of how proud we are of our College.”
The Captains aim to do this by encouraging their Year Level to turn up, both physically and in attitude. By instilling a sense of pride that starts with how students don their uniform, they aim to create a flow-on effect, whereby all Seniors turn up to College events to show their support for the wider St Peters community.
“Everyone has their own individual talents and they all have the right to be acknowledged,” Vice Captain, Alara, said. “We want everyone to feel that their talents are supported and acknowledged.”
The Captains envisage a College that is completely connected; where all Year Levels, co curriculars and the wider community are united by College spirit. This, when combined with their final aim, to have all Seniors graduating with no regrets, will be no small task, but it’s nothing they’re not equipped to handle. The level of commitment our College and Vice Captains have already shown is inspirational—we’re confident they’ll have every Senior walking down the graduation Guard of Honour knowing they’ve achieved everything they wanted to by the end of the year.
ST PETERS LUTHERAN COLLEGE SPRINGFIELD
SCHOOL LEADERS: MINNA H, ZAC H, GRACE L AND KHUSHI P.
What is your vision for your school community in 2020?
Our vision for the community of St Peters Lutheran College Springfield in 2020 is to find ways to engage with students and build as many positive relationships as possible. When we began thinking about our goals for 2020, we decided to model the values of PERMA (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Achievement). PERMA is a significant part of St Peters culture; we strive to implement its ideals in all our visions and goals. Additionally, we look to the School Captains who led before us, and the examples they have set for our community. They have created strong foundations for activities that involve the entirety of secondary school. This year, we aspire to build upon those foundations by implementing initiatives that connect primary and secondary schools. For example, the school leaders have begun mentoring and leading Primary School enrichment clubs, such as Story Club and Sports Club. Through building these relationships, we want all primary students to know that secondary students will always be there for them. Furthermore, we are hoping to foster greater understanding of different cultures. To do this, we aim to host a Cultural Festival, connecting people in our community and celebrating our diversity and multiculturalism. Overall, we have big ideas for what we want to see at St Peters in 2020. We believe through these initiatives, we can build meaningful relationships with all members of the St Peters community.

Bella Allen: My vision as 2020 captain is to rejuvenate the school culture inside of Windaroo. In doing this I hope to leave behind a culture where there are seamless transitions of senior leadership groups from year to year with the mission of their own positive contribution to Windaroo, and the skill and experience to implement it. I also hope to create a forum in our school where all our students can report issues and give suggestions for school improvements and we can work together to create a better place to come to every day.
