At Bribie Island State School, every year our School Captains, Leaders and Peer Mentors exceeds the expectations of commitments and enthusiasm to their roles and duties. We promote and support a positive school culture by empowering our leaders with the skills, understanding, attitude and strategies to improve leadership attributes.

In order to develop dynamic proactive leaders, every year our leaders are provided with two opportunities to participate in training programs. The initial training is an introduction to the development of effective knowledge and skills that is delivered at the end of year five by an experienced teacher who has been working with student leaders over 20 years. The day program was filled with activities that promote teamwork, developing communications skills and focus on traits and qualities that make a good leader. The second is a leadership program presented by the Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP) reinforcing the core of what it takes to be a leader in the first week back to school year 6 to ensuring that the year starts with a positive clear common goal.

After learning the importance of fostering positive interactions between lower and upper school students in a play-based environment. They practice these skills in the ongoing Bribie Island State School ‘Buddy Play’ Program. Buddy Play Program plays an important role in helping to create a safe school environment allowing the development of relationship between upper and lower school. The program teaches and gives students the opportunity to practice the important values of respect, turn taking, valuing differences, responsibility and friendship.

It is evident that the Buddy Play Program strengthens the school community, creating connectedness between older and younger buddies to make Bribie Island state school a safe learning environment. However, most importantly, our school leaders develop key skills in resilience, assertiveness, decision making and problem solving become a positive role model at Bribie Island State School.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?

Our vision for the students at Deception Bay State High School is simply, “PUG”. PUG stands for Pride, Unity and Growth. Through our captaincy, it is our hope that we will build school pride, foster a greater sense of unity for everyone in our school and ensure that all students experience growth in 2020.

Whether it is a sense of school pride in wearing our uniform or pride in our house or school spirit in sporting events, it is our goal that all Deception Bay State High school students are proud of who they are and where they learn.

A sense of pride is underpinned by genuine unity between all members of our community – staff, students and family. Along with our year 12 peers, we hope to model that unity is built on mutual respect and empathy for others.

We believe that every student can grow as learners everyday. As leaders, we take very seriously our responsibility to encourage and celebrate those students who step out of their comfort zones in the name of learning.

Bring on 2020!

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?

We are honoured to have been selected as the 2020 College Captains at Genesis Christian College. We see this as a unique opportunity to strengthen our school’s relationship with the community and with Christ.

Genesis Christian College is built on strong Christian values and offers many pathways into extra-curricular activities. As Captains, we will strive to encourage ourselves and other students to adopt a positive mindset in all areas of curricular and extra-curricular education. We plan on achieving this through leading by example and we look forward to serving alongside our dedicated Principal and staff. By adapting a servant heart this year, we can make positive change to our school community.

As part of the 2020 cohort, this year we will be pioneers navigating the ATAR system. Our overall goal is to support our cohort through this time, but also to show other cohorts that if we can make it so can they.

We hope that all students and staff have an enjoyable year where we can all learn together and trust that together as one team, we can overcome any challenges that may come our way. We acknowledge that it is only through God’s wisdom that we will be able to complete this year and we trust that His word will guide our path.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?

A true leader is someone as great as the people they serve in their community. They don’t

choose to stand above or in front, but among their peers as an equal. As 2020 School

Captains, we believe in leadership that values compassion and confidence, as well as integrity and selflessness. The privilege of serving as a captain goes beyond the badge and is a chance to ignite change. It is the chance to be someone who listens and is available to those who seek to express their voice. In our final year of school, we want to uphold the feeling of being loved, included and empowered. To be leaders who are mentors and who instil positivity at every given opportunity. To live a life full of love, would be the most adequate form of a life well-lived. This year we want to continue the legacy of the previous captains. Our goal is to inspire change in the Grace culture. Journeys at Grace evolve and we hope for our fellow student’s experience at Grace to be similar to our own – to have an honest passion and happiness for coming to school. As a group, we truly believe that Grace has been a foundation for our growth as young adults.

The ‘2020 vision’ is to promote the excitement and enthusiasm students should feel when

coming to school and growing in Grace, and that, as a leadership team, we demonstrate,

promote and encourage our values of Grit Growth and Grace.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?

As the school leaders in 2020, we often ask ourselves, what is the purpose behind our actions? What positive impact can we leave on the future students, leaders and teachers? We aim to create a positive environment for students and teachers alike, where everyone feels they are part of a community. Every week, students across all grades focus on different respect goals, as leaders of the school we focus on these and ensure they are being followed positively. The respect program created by teachers, aims to help students develop themselves on a personal and professional level in regards to behaviour, social skills and representing the school in the community. As leaders we have gone through our high schooling career with this program, so are happy to positively enforce it through the leading of our school. As leaders we aim to get maximum participation across all areas of schooling, from sport to academic, cultural to community activities. As leaders, we are going to put as much effort as possible into evolving the school more than it already is. We want to encourage students in all aspects across the board and ensure we are leaving a legacy for future leaders to continue in further years.

What is your vision for your school community in 2020?

“Great things are possible” is the Lasallian motto for 2020; as proud captains of the only Lasallian school in Queensland, it is especially important we drive this message in both our school and wider community. As a school community, we aim to live out each day by practicing our five core Lasallian principles; concern for the poor and social justice, faith in the presence of God, quality education, respect for all persons and inclusive community. Through embodying these principles, our vision for this year is to energise. We aim to energise the community of Southern Cross Catholic College by driving every student to do and be their best in whatever pursuit they may chase, leading as role models through action and word. We strive to not just be the picture in the newspaper but to foster a positive environment at school each and every day, leading with friendly smiles and confidence in the greatness of the students at Southern Cross. We also wish to energise the community by doing God’s work; giving our time to local causes and involving ourselves in a variety of events. This year we will continue to strengthen our partnerships with our house solidarity groups such as Young Care and the Breakfast Club, aiming to contribute consistently in every way we can. We hope to live out our vision each and every day in 2020. Watch out – there are great things to come!
