Victoria Point man hit with years’ disqualification after brazen drug drive while suspended

A southeast Queensland court has imposed an eye-watering suspension on a repeat unlicensed driver who placed the community at significant risk by getting behind the wheel after recently smoking ice.

Stage four restrictions eased in Melbourne: What changes?

A serial disqualified driver with an “appalling traffic history” has lost his licence for years after getting behind the wheel having recently smoked meth.

Reece David Alcott, 29, surrendered himself to the Cleveland Magistrates Court yesterday after a warrant had been activated on him and proceeded to plead guilty to driving while licence suspended, possessing drug utensils and driving with a relevant drug in his system.

The court heard Victoria Point man Alcott was pulled over by police at 11am on July 14 at German Church Road in Redland Bay due to the suspicious manner of his driving.

Officers would discover Alcott had already been court disqualified from driving for 24 months for an October 14 offence last year.

The court was told Alcott tried to conceal a glass pipe in his hand during the intercept and would admit to police he had recently used it to smoke ice.

Tests later confirmed he had methylamphetamine in his system when he drove, which the court heard, placed other road users at significant risk.

An unrepresented Allcot admitted his behaviour on the day was disgraceful and said he “couldn’t see himself going back to that”.

The defendant further said he had been unemployed since injuring his back but had plans of working with youths.

Acting magistrate Leanne Scoines said Alcott’s “appalling record” and previous two-year suspension meant there could be no confusion on his part in relation to his ability to drive.

Alcott was disqualified from driving for three years, which together with his previous suspension, means he will be without a licence for four years.

The defendant was also placed on six months’ probation with a conviction recorded.
