A 24-YEAR-OLD serial unlicensed driver with a three-page traffic history has been told she may as well pack her toothbrush should she drive again while suspended.

Billie-Jean Rose Blake-Van-Buuren was given a one-month jail sentence suspended over six months and disqualified from driving for two years when she appeared at the Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard Eagleby woman Blake-Van-Buuren had been disqualified from driving for two years in 2019 when she was intercepted behind the wheel at 9.30am on June 1 this year on Colburn Ave in Victoria Point.

The court heard the defendant, who was unrepresented and worked in a jewellery store, had been visiting her boyfriend and was driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle at the time.

Remarkably Blake-Van-Buuren had yet to tell her parents, with whom she lives, that she had lost her licence.

“You’re going to have to fess up because you’re going to go to jail if you keep driving,” Magistrate Deborah Vasta said.

“Imagine how shocking that will be for them to get a phone call from the prison.

“If you get charged with disqualified driving again you can pack a toothbrush.”

The court heard Blake-Van-Buuren had accrued nine speeding fines, was twice fined for failing to wear a seatbelt and had also lost her licence for a high-range drink driving incident in 2018.

A police prosecutor said the defendant was facing serious charges and posed a risk to the community should she become involved in a crash.
