A Darling Downs man remains in custody after being charged with dangerous driving offences following an incident which brought the Pacific Motorway to a grinding halt when a stolen meat truck swiped more than 40 motorists and triggered a wild police chase.

Mathew David Trevor, 31, of Tara, was charged with 12 offences including robbery with violence while armed, possession of dangerous drugs, believed to be meth and fentanyl, and unlawful use of a vehicle.

Mr Trevor was due to appear in court on Wednesday after being remanded in custody on Monday night.

Cleveland Magistrate Zac Sarra adjourned the matter after Mr Trevor did not apply for bail.

The matter had been adjourned on Tuesday while Mr Trevor received medical treatment for pre-existing burns.

Police released video footage of Monday’s road rampage, in which a meat truck, stolen from Mooloolaba, was driven south on the wrong side of the road and at times 100kmh over the speed limit.

The stolen truck came to a halt at the Mansfield home of retiree Bruce Shoobridge, who was watching TV in his living room when he heard it slam into his back deck.

“I realised the police were more interested in what was going on in the corner of the truck rather than in the back of my house,” he said.

“I went back to my computer and waited for a little while until things settled down.

“It wasn’t scary. I was a little p*ssed off when I saw what was going on at the corner of my deck and the back end of the house but the police obviously had it under control.

“That sort of excitement I don’t really need — I’ve got other things to be doing on a Monday night.”

Police used Polair to track the truck, from Sunshine Coast business Fresh Meats, with customers phoning in sightings as it headed south on the Bruce Highway to Brisbane.

More than 20 calls were also made to police overnight about the truck on the highway, with many of the cars allegedly hit on the Pacific Mwy around Woolloongabba and Holland Park.

Mr Trevor was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, robbery with violence, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts each of stealing and possession of dangerous drugs.

A court date is yet to be set for the matter.
