A desperate search is on to find the family behind a beautiful roadside memorial before it is removed.
The memorial, adorned with crosses, bouquets and even a pair of sunglasses and photo of the person understood to have lost their life at 315 Serpentine Creek Road, Redland Bay, will need to be relocated to make way for widening of the busy road.
One of two crosses bares the simple yet haunting words “I miss you Dad”.
Redland City Deputy Mayor Julie Talty today issued a call-out to locals in a desperate bid to find the family of the unregistered roadside memorial before the dead tree it is attached to is removed.
“Main Roads are making every effort to try to contact the family of the young father who lost his life here before they remove the memorial, however it is not a registered memorial and there is no information at the site which points them toward a contact person,” Cr Talty said.
“If you know the family of this young man would you please ask them to contact Main Roads (there are some signs at the memorial) or email me their names and any contact details and I will forward them through to Main Roads.”
Sadly, Serpentine Creek Rd has become the site of a number of fatal crashes.
In July 2020, a 69-year-old Wynnum West woman died after the car she was driving collided with a truck at the road’s intersection with Cleveland Redland Bay Rd.
Just months earlier — in February — young mother of three Mersina Axiom tragically lost her life after her car collided with a ute.
