A southeast Queensland magistrate has warned a young mother with a terrible traffic history her children could easily have visited her at her grave.

A downcast Michelle Donna Maxwell, 25, pleaded guilty to driving while over the middle alcohol limit when she appeared at the Cleveland Magistrates Court today.
The court was told the Redland Bay woman had written off her car and caused $4000 in damages to another vehicle after she crashed with a 0.106 per cent blood-alcohol level at around 9.30pm on May 2 at Meredith Place.
The court heard Maxwell had a “terrible traffic history” and was a “statistic waiting to happen” with 13 speeding fines, a mobile phone offence and a failure to stop at a red light offence on her record.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said she hoped the incident had come as a terrible fright to the defendant and asked her whether she had considered the fact her young children could very well have been visiting her at her grave had she not been so lucky to escape injury.
An unrepresented Maxwell said she had been in a bad place and drinking heavily following a redundancy due to COVID-19.
The defendant said she had since gained work at a Thornlands farm and expressed remorse at her behaviour.
Maxwell was convicted and fined $500 and disqualified from driving for three months.
