Queen’s Birthday Honours Lists recognises community with seven recipients
Many Australians were recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List today, and one area in southeast Queensland was home to seven recipients.

SEVEN outstanding residents from Redlands have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List today.
Four residents of Cleveland were honoured along with one each from Capalaba, Birkdale and Ormiston.

CLEVELAND
Paul John Clauson was awarded an AM for significant service to law and the people of Queensland parliament.
Mr Clauson worked in law as a Commissioner, Solicitor and Judge’s Associate before entering parliament.
He was a Minister for Heritage and the Arts, Corrective Services, Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, and was the Member for Redlands from 1985-1989.
The AM award is a Member of the Order of Australia and is awarded for service in a particular locality or field of activity, or to a particular group.
Wayne Maxwell Cole was awarded an OAM for his dedicated service to lifesaving.
Mr Cole has been a member of Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club since 1968 and was Club Captain in 1974-1978 and past President.
Mr Cole has previously been awarded a Local Hero Award from Redland City Council and multiple Surf Life Saving Australia awards including Gold, Silver and Bronze medallions.
The OAM is Medal of the Order of Australia and is awarded to those who have provided service worthy of particular recognition.

Team Plodder Power ready to run 100km
Louise Janette Saunders was awarded an OAM for her service to wildlife conservation and to the visual arts.
Ms Saunders is the Founder of Bat Conservation and Rescue Queensland, and is currently vice president, Exhibition and Events Officer, Committee Member and an exhibiting artist for the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society.
She has previously been recognised by Wildlife Artist’s Society of Australasia, Redland Shire Council, Queensland Conservation Council and Queensland Wildlife Artists Society.
Ms Saunders combined her work environment with her love of art to work on numerous art conservation projects.
Her work in the arts involved founding the Botanical Artists’s Society of Queensland, teaching as part of the Wynnum Manly Arts Council, tutoring at the Coochie Art Group, exhibiting at Old School House Gallery, artist in residence at South Stradbroke Island’s Couran Cove Island Resort and much more.
Associate Professor Alexander Stewart Forrest was awarded an AO for his distinguished service to dentistry, particularly forensic odontology and eduction in the field of head and neck anatomy.
Mr Forrest is the Director of Forensic Odontology for Queensland Health and has been recognised for his work in identifying victims of disasters.
He has identified people involved in:
•Samoa tsunami, 2010.
•Kokoda air crash, 2010.
•Victorian bushfires, 2009.
•Thailand tsunami, 2004.
•Bali bombing, 2002.
•Blackhawk helicopter crash, 1996.
•All Queensland Disaster Victim Identification Operations, since 2004.
Mr Forrest was an Associate Professor at Griffith University and The University of Queensland and is a member and Junior vice president of the Queensland branch of the Australian Dental Association.

Young and old take on tough challenge
CAPALABA
James Andrew Gable was awarded an OAM for his service to veterans and their families.
Is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Airfield Defence Association Australia Inc., the Editor of The Blue Beret, and current President of Cannon Hill District and Vietnam Services Sub-Branch.
Mr Gable was formerly the Secretary and Treasurer of Cannon Hill District and Vietnam Services Sub-Branch and member of the Queensland South Eastern District of Advocacy and Welfare.
BIRKDALE
Colin James Sutcliffe was awarded an OAM for his service to the community of Capalaba and to education.
Mr Sutcliffe is the Director of STAR Community Services, the Director of the Rotary Club of Capalaba and the Chair and Director of Mangrove Housing Association.
His education achievements included working as Foundation Head of Junior School at Faith Lutheran College, Foundation Principal of Charters Towers School of Distance Education, Let’s Read Coordinator for The Smith Family and Board Member at Moreton Bay Boys’ College.
Mr Sutcliffe was named Redlands Volunteer of the Year in 2016, and he has received many awards through the Rotary Club.

ORMISTON
William Martin Corten was awarded an OAM for his service to the maritime recreation industry.
He has been a Coastal Bar Crossing and Offshore Boating and Fishing Instructor since 1996 and a full-time marine trainer sin 2009.
He is a writer for Bush ‘n’ Beach Fishing Magazine and previously provided fishing reports to the Courier Mail.
Mr Corten developed, managed and compered the Fishing Expo Program and the Tinnie and Tackle Show at the Brisbane Boat Show from 2000, for 12 years.
He has also held managerial positions at the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland.
Redlands Community News would like to congratulate all seven Redlands recipients of the Queen’s Birthday Honours as well as those who were recognised across the country.
