Hundreds commented on public social media after local bird watcher Chris Walker shared his images of a trail bike rider sprinting across cricket fields at Henry Ziegenfusz Park in Cleveland yesterday morning.
A keen nature enthusiast Mr Walker posted the images to keep the community informed and got an enthusiastic response, ranging from outright condemnation to casual acceptance to calls for a dedicated off-road track in the Redlands.
“I am all about community engagement and wanted to see what the community thinks about something like this,” Mr Walker said.
“Out of it might come increased fines from council or more thought given into what might be an appropriate strategy for giving people a facility where they can do this.”
A Cleveland Thornlands Cricket Club spokesman said extensive work had recently been done on the club’s pitch but reported only a long wheel rut had been left across the field by the motorcyclist.
Redland City Council signs nearby urge residents to “enjoy and not destroy” the fields and specifically ban the use of motorcycles at the location.
It comes as two trail bike riders had their vehicles seized after being arrested and charged with dangerous driving after allegedly hooning on roads and parks in Capalaba between April and the start of this month.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said no reports had been made of the incident.
