A saucy phone call has landed a young Stradbroke Island man in court, after CCTV captured him committing an indecent act.

An indecent act on a train station platform has landed a young Stradbroke Island man before the court, after he became “too excited”.

Mitchell Jack Larkin, 20, pleaded guilty to publicly committing an indecent act, by masturbating at Cleveland Station, on September 23, 2023.

A police prosecutor said Larkin was waiting at the station at 9.25am and pulled down his trousers to masturbate using his left hand.

“He was captured on CCTV,” the Sergeant said.

“Police took up with the defendant who said he got too excited while talking to his girlfriend on the phone.

“He appeared remorseful and ashamed … the acts are concerning in a public place for all people to see however there was no one around and he thought he was doing it privately,” he said.

Larkin’s defence lawyer said this will never happen again and acknowledged Larkin’s lack of any criminal history.

“All I can say is that he is extremely sorry and embarrassed.

“He was on the phone to the first girlfriend he has experienced,” he said.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta encouraged Larkin’s lawyer to keep his defence brief to save further humiliation.

“There was no one around to be offended but you were caught on CCTV,” Ms Vasta said.

Larkin was fined $300 and no convictions were recorded.
