A young Moreton Bay father is awaiting news on the outcome of a surgery that tackled a brain tumour tangled around his arteries, discovered hours after a terrifying seizure last week.

Sam Patterson, 30, is a “typical Aussie tradie” who enjoys dedicating his life to his children, partner, family, mates and footy.

On Monday November 6, Mr Patterson had arrived at the supermarket with his partner Krystal McAllister when he suffered an unexpected seizure.

Miss McAllister said as they entered the doors of the shop Sam grunted and fell, hitting his head on the glass door.

“He turned blue and was biting his tongue, before he fell it looked like he was tap dancing,” Ms McAllister said.

“It lasted for about a minute and I was in hysterics calling for someone to get an ambulance.

“While we waited for the paramedics he was unable to string a sentence together,” she said.

Mr Patterson was taken to Redcliffe Hospital where a CT scan revealed he had a tumour mass on the left frontal lobe of his brain.

Miss McAllister said the “heartbroken” doctor told them the tumour was not enormous, but not small.

“The neurosurgeon referred us to the Royal Hospital in Brisbane where we met with Doctor Lindy Jeffreys who organised an MRI,” Miss McAllister said.

“The results were extremely confronting as the tumour looked massive, most of his brain looked lit up with tumour.

“We spent the weekend at home with friends and family and set up our Christmas tree early it was beautiful,” she said.

Mr Patterson underwent a 7 hour surgery on Monday to remove as much of the tumour as was safe.

He was told there was a high chance he could lose his speech and the use of the right side of his body.

Miss McAllister said after the surgery Sam miraculously was joking around and fully responsive.

“I was very anxious but everything went fine, he was back chatting and having a laugh as the anaesthesia wore off,” Miss McAllister said.

“The neurosurgeon informed us that she had no been able to remove as much of the tumour as she had hoped, there were large arteries and veins blocking the tumour,” she said.

The couple were told to wait until Thursday for the tumour to be tested and that they “might not get the news they want”.

Miss McAllister said Mr Patterson has been unbelievably positive throughout this unimaginable time.

“He is so strong and would have all of us crying around him and he’ll say ‘I’ve got the best neurosurgeon in the Southern Hemisphere’, you honestly wouldn’t know he is handling all of this news,” she said.
