A Brisbane man has faced court after he allegedly ran down a young Redlands couple on their date night, leaving a young mum in an induced coma.
Jaay Edwards, 25, and her partner Cooper Kennedy, 24, of Victoria Point, were enjoying a night together at the Muay Thai fights at the Alexandra Hills Hotel on Finucane Rd on March 11 when they were allegedly deliberately struck by a car about 11.30pm.
Ms Edwards was placed in an induced coma after she was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Woolloongabba in critical condition.
The mother of two young children is now learning to walk and talk again and has been moved to an intensive care neurology ward.
The alleged driver of the car, Joseph Peter Pritchard, 34, of Salisbury, faced the Cleveland Magistrates Court in Redlands Thursday on two accounts of alleged attempted murder and possessing utensils.
His lawyer Sarah Pascoe said her client, who was not applying for bail, was approved for funding for legal aid.
“I have received a brief (of evidence) this morning and it is quite lengthy I’m told,” she said.
“We are also envisioning we will have to apply for early funding so I’m seeking a lengthier adjournment than ordinarily.”
Mr Pritchard remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 6.
