Her sister, Kristie Williams, shared an update on her condition.

“Jamie has had an amazing week, she has completely woken up and been trying to talk to us...we have been learning how to lip read and been able to have little convos with her,” Ms Williams said.

“Jamie had the tracheostomy taken out and she finally has her voice back.

“We can’t describe how nice it is to be able to talk to her, answer her questions and know exactly how she’s feeling and what she wants and needs.

“She’s started physio and has full movement in all of her limbs.

“She is awaiting a bed at the rehabilitation centre where she will start her recovery journey.”

Ms Edwards has two young children — Ivar, two, and Caelus, seven months — who she had been on maternity leave with until the crash.

“Jamie was supposed to return to work after her two lots of maternity leaves a few weeks ago,” her sister said.

“She currently has no income and her partner is caring for their two young children … so he’s unable to return to work at the moment.

“Thank you so much for everyone’s love, support and prayers.”

The accused driver, Salisbury resident Joseph Peter Pritchard, appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court via videolink on Wednesday, March 15, on two accounts of attempted murder and possessing utensils.

Pritchard’s lawyer Brittany White said her client would not be applying for bail.

He was due to appear again for committal mention on May 4.
