A Logan man allegedly took part in a midnight heist of $7000 worth of vacuum cleaners stored in shipping containers outside a Redlands shop, a court has heard.

Donald Freeman, 42, was refused bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on one charge of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence.

Police prosecution alleged that overnight on November 10 last year Freeman drove to Capalaba and stole the stock from a shipping container left outside Godfreys Superstore.

Freeman, from Loganlea, allegedly cut a locked padlock and then loaded vacuum cleaners into the back of his car before driving away.

The court heard 18 vacuum cleaners were stolen and that the incident was captured on CCTV footage.

Freeman was allegedly seen in the same car the next day at a nearby Bunnings in Capalaba.

He denied he was involved in the heist.

“It wasn’t me that did that. I don't know where they are getting the evidence that it was me,” he told the court.

“I just found out my mum is sick and I really want to get out and see her.”

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll refused bail and said Freeman’s lengthy criminal history was a significant factor.

“Quite simply, your history counts against you,” said Mr O’Driscoll.

“I find you an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.”

Freeman had been remanded in custody since April 11.

The matter was adjourned for mention to Cleveland Magistrates Court on May 30.
