An Ormiston tradesman has been told his behaviour was “disgusting and abusive” when he fronted Cleveland Magistrates Court for losing it at a teenage Maccas worker.

Dean Adam Woodhouse, 26, pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault, of a 17-year-old, on Tuesday October 31, 2023.

A Police Prosecutor said Woodhouse attended the McDonald's Cleveland Drive-Thru at 10.30am on May 10, 2023.

“The teenager began talking through the intercom system and (Woodhouse) said ‘You useless c---, I’ve been waiting for five minutes,” the Sergeant said.

“They had further conversation until the complainant advised him he was not comfortable serving him.

“The defendant pulled up to the window and spat at the victim, he felt it hit the side of his face.

“He recorded Woodhouse driving off and called triple-0,”

The court heard police attended the restaurant and seized the victim’s shirt for DNA evidence.

“He was captured on CCTV and was tracked through his vehicle registration,” the Sergeant said.

Woodhouse’s defence lawyer said Woodhouse has been in a dark place and this incident is out of character.

“He can’t explain what happened, he doesn’t minimise what he’s done and he does have regret,” the lawyer said.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Woodhouse has a “terrible driving history” but no criminal record.

“Anyone with the lack of respect to spit in someone’s face usually has a criminal history,” Ms Vasta said.

“It’s such an extreme reaction, can you imagine trying to do your job and someone spits in your face.

“It’s so disgusting,” she said.

Ms Vasta sentenced Woodhouse to be “hit in the hip pockets” as he was ordered to pay $2,000 in compensation to the victim.

Woodhouse was ordered to a $500 behaviour bond.

No conviction was recorded.
