A Redland father who was dragged from the wreckage of his ute by three locals during the early hours of Monday morning, has been told by paramedics he is “lucky to be alive”.

Rob Cooke’s white ute smashed into a tree at Mount Cotton Road at 3am, before four drivers, including Mitchell Florence stopped to call emergency services and saved him from the wreckage.

Paramedics arrived at the scene at 3.41am and took Mr Cooke to the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital.

“The male in his 50s was transported in a stable condition suffering a leg injury,” a QAS spokeswoman said.

Mr Florence said he didn’t pull Rob from the ute as I didn’t know the extent of his injuries and didn’t want to further injure him.

“I was on the phone to emergency services when another car of two or three blokes pulled up and dragged him out,” Mr Florence said.

“They left pretty much immediately after, I just stayed with Rob and kept him talking till the ambulance arrived.

“I haven't spoken to Rob since but have messaged his wife Chelle Cooke wishing their family a good recovery,” he said.

Mr Cooke’s wife Chelle Cooke said her husband is still in a huge amount of pain.

“I’ve just arrived at the hospital he’s awaiting surgery,” Mrs Cooke said.

“A massive thank you Mitchell for coming to his aid and the other 2 tradies,” she said.

Deb Arnold said she passed the wreckage on her way to work.

“I am shocked but relieved someone got out of this alive,” Ms Arnold said.

A PA Hospital spokeswoman said Mr Cooke remained in a stable condition at the hospital.
