A man in Brisbane’s south has been arrested and will face court after allegedly wielding a knife and threatening a father and child aboard a train.

The dad was near the Thorneside station on the Cleveland train line at midday, November 1 when 58-year-old Murarrie man J.Cornwell allegedly began swinging a knife around, almost hitting the other man’s young daughter.

“Someone pulled a 10cm knife on the train, it was centimetres away from my child’s head as they were swinging it around,” he said on social media.

“A young man charged at him and got him away from all of us, luckily nobody was hurt and the good Samaritan was safe.

“Police came and we all exited the train and got on a new one.

“The hero had to stay behind to give his statements, I am so grateful for that young fella’ and wish I could buy him a beer.

“I’m mad at myself for being slow on the reflexes, but just inspired by the bravery of that young man.”

Queensland Police said Mr Cornwell has been issued a notice to appear after police were called to the Thorneside disturbance around midday yesterday.

He has been charged with possession of a knife in a public space and going armed to cause fear.

Mr Cornwell is expected to appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on November 28.
