A Gold Coast man has caused almost $4000 in damage to his ex-lover’s car after a violent, drug-induced tantrum saw him spiral out of control, days before Christmas.
Konrad Nicholas Floyd, 36, went to his ex-partner’s Coolum Beach house on December 16, 2022 and destroyed her car bonnet, heard Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
The Broadbeach man caused $3500 worth of damage to the car and smashed her new boyfriend’s rear view mirror.
He also threatened the woman with violence in a psychotic rage, while yelling “I still love you”.
In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, the woman said Floyd would not normally act this way and was suffering from a poor mental health episode.
“Normal Konrad would not act in that way, he was under the effect of psychosis,” she said in a statement to the court.
On April 23, 2023 Floyd made threatening phone calls to the woman and caused a disturbance at a Beenleigh service station.
The court heard he was aggressively kicking bins outside the 7-Eleven before driving off with $40 worth of fuel without paying.
Floyd pleaded guilty on October 31 to public nuisance, forcible entry, threatening violence, unlicensed driving and two counts of wilful damage.
Magistrate Shane Elliott said domestic violence would not be tolerated by the courts.
“Domestic violence is a scourge on our society,” he said.
“These are extremely serious offences, particularly the domestic violence offences and you need to deal with your mental health effectively, for the good of your family.”
“If you commit these offences again you will receive a term of imprisonment.”
Floyd was sentenced to two years probation and no conviction was recorded.
He was ordered to pay $1858 in restitution to the victim, $40 in restitution to the 7-Eleven and his driving licence was disqualified for six months.
