A bayside woman has been caught on charges of stealing and fraud after driving off more than 10 times with stolen fuel.

Cleveland resident, Chloe Marie Burr, 23, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Friday (August 19) to four counts of stealing and nine counts of fraud.

The court heard Ms Burr targeted suburbs including Cleveland, Mackenzie, Victoria Point, Mount Cotton, Tingalpa, Birkdale, Oxley and Darra, as well as Gympie, stealing hundreds of dollars of fuel over a seven month period.

“There is clear CCTV footage showing her at the fuel station,” police prosecutor Sergeant Angela Tetley said.

“There needs to be a deterrence to her.

“It’s absolutely contemptuous of her.”

Ms Burr’s lawyer, Tania Lacey, said her client regretted her actions.

“She instructs she is very remorseful,” Ms Lacey said.

Ms Lacey said her client had time to think while being detained in the watchouse overnight.

“She found it scary and daunting,” she said.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said her actions were stupid.

“It’s stupid. It’s criminality,

“I can’t believe you would continue to do so.”

“Helping yourself like it’s free self serve service that’s available to you.

“How did this girl not figure out she was going to get caught?”

Ms Burr was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service, and received 18 months' probation.

No convictions were recorded.
