Macleay Island man threatens to break dogs’ neck, bruises ex

A bayside man has faced court for hurling foul abuse at his partner, bruising her and threatening to break their dog’s neck after she would not sell her house to him for a rock bottom price.

A bayside man has faced court after smashing the doors of his ex’s house, and threatening to break the neck of their dog if she did not sell the house to him for $100,000.

The 73-year-old man pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court today (August 16) to two counts of breaching a domestic violence order.

The court heard the Macleay Island man, who cannot be named, attended his ex-partner’s house on May 30, 2022 when he started smashing the front door and yelling.

“He said, you’re nothing but a f**king c**t,” a police prosecutor said.

“At one point he threatened to break the dog’s neck,” he said.

On June 5 he went to her, demanding for the keys to the house, yelling at her to sell him the house for $100,000, the court heard.

“He said, you f**king c**t. Give me the keys,” the police prosecutor said.

In a previous incident late last year, the man bruised his ex-partners’ arm.

“These offences are continuing, this is the fourth time now all aimed towards the one aggrieved,” he said.

His lawyer, Natasha Shorter, said her client was remorseful for his actions.

“The incidents arrived as a result of the breakdown of their relationship,” Ms Shorter said.

“He’s allowed his emotions to get the best of him.”

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said the man needed to seek help for his mental needs.

“It’s really important that you look after your mental health because your mental health will really affect how you behave,” Ms Vasta said.

The man was given 15 months’ probation.

No conviction was recorded.
