Bizarre footage has emerged online of two thieves using a buzz saw to break into a South East Queensland pet store before making away with just bird seed.

CCTV footage from Capalaba Produce, Pets, Plants shows two masked men using a buzz saw to bust open a roller door of the pet store.

One man then entered the store at 1.45am Tuesday.

Just minutes later the masked intruder leaves the store with two giants packets of bird feed.

The value of the bird seed was estimated at roughly $20.

A message posted online by the Redlands retailer, sarcastically mocked the man’s attempts at pocketing pet food.

“Do you know this person? We’d love to let them know we are not open at 1.40 in the morning to buy bird seed,” they said on Facebook.

Store manager Nicolas Walls said it was the most bizarre incident he had witnessed in all his years working at the store.

“It was the most entertaining video I have watched in ages,” he said.

“Over the 28 years that I have been here, we have only ever had a handful of break ins, but never into the physical store.

“The issue has always been easy access products in our yard.”

Mr Walls said he had reported the theft to the authorities.

“The offenders were on site from 1.31am to 1.53am and I was able to supply the police with images of their licence plate.”

Queensland Police said they were investigating the issue but no charges had been laid at this stage.

“Police are investigating following reports of a break and enter in Capalaba yesterday morning, May 21,” they said in a statement.

“Initial information indicates around two people have broken into a business along Old Cleveland Road.

Investigations are continuing ... Anyone who may have information or CCTV footage is urged to contact police.”
