Newcastle, Wallsend: CCTV released after man held at knifepoint in tobacconist armed robbery

Police are still hunting for a man accused of holding up a tobacconist at knifepoint two years ago. Here is what we know.

A man allegedly stormed a tobacconist while brandishing a knife and threatening and attendant in the Hunter.

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe can assist with inquiries, following the alleged incident more then two years ago.

Footage released by NSW Police doesn't show the man brandishing a knife, however police allege the man held the employee at knife-point before fleeing the store with cash.

Officers were called to a tobacconist on Cowper Street, Wallsend, on January 21, 2022 following reports of an armed robbery.

Police said, a man entered a store at around 5.20pm wearing a face mask, black hat, glasses and demanded the store attendant hand over cash.

He was last seen heading towards the Ironbark Creek Bridge, near Dan Rees St.

The man is described as being of caucasian appearance, aged between 25 to 35, medium build, and about 180cm tall.

Police also wish to speak with the driver of a white Nissan Navara utility with a trailer seen in the area around the time of the incident.
