Alexandra Hills woman Amy Leigh Camacho, 29, granted bail on meth supply charges

A 29-year-old woman facing two meth supply charges after a thus far crime-free life, has been bailed with a tracking device to discourage “very serious” drug offenders from contact.

The surprising history of meth

A 29-year-old woman with no criminal history facing meth supply charges has been released on bail with a tracking device so that she is “too hot to handle” by pals, described at court as “heavy hitters” in the local drug scene.

Appearing at Cleveland Magistrates Court on Thursday Alexandra Hills woman Amy Leigh Camacho cried freely with supporting family upon her bail release.

She faces a string of charges that include two counts of supplying meth, three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.

Police will allege the mother-of-two hosted numerous “very serious offenders”, including a convicted child sex offender, at her residence and supplied meth on two occasions.

It prompted a police prosecutor to oppose Camacho’s application for bail.

Defence solicitor Bree-Anna Bowtell said her client had no criminal history and had made admissions to using meth.

A show of discontent at having to wear a tracking device in order to be released on bail by the defendant was met with short shrift from the bench.

“You are allowing some very heavy hitters at your house,” Magistrate Deborah Vasta said.

“If you don’t want to be on a tracking device, that’s fine – you can stay in custody.

“What I am trying to do is make you too hot to handle for these very serious drug and criminal offenders that you are (allegedly) hanging out with.”

Camacho was granted bail on condition that she wear an ankle satellite tracking device that follows her movements every 15 seconds.

She was further placed on a curfew mandating she remain at her residence between 6am – 9pm seven days a week.

And she was banned from having any contact with four drug, and violence-related offenders.
