A woman facing dozens of meth supply and trafficking charges is alleged by police to have been busted with eight grams of ice at a popular bayside tavern while on bail.
Crystal Louise Gimm, 33, avoided spending 12 – 18 months on remand, according to Magistrate Zachary Sarra, after she was granted bail at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday.
The unusual decision to grant her bail occurred after police could not explain why the defendant was allowed in the community following her most recent arrest.
Gimm faces 55 charges that include 48 charges of supplying dangerous drugs and two for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
Police will allege the Mount Gravatt woman was busted about 1am on March 19 when she was observed getting into her white Holden at the Tingalpa Hotel carpark.
According to the prosecution, Gimm allegedly behaved nervously when interviewed by police and was spotted trying to conceal a pencil case which contained approximately 8g of meth.
A police prosecutor submitted Gimm ought to have her bail denied given she was on bail for drug trafficking charges at the time.
But defence solicitor Jim Coburn said the “penny appears to have finally dropped” for his client, who had been issued no further charges since March.
Mr Coburn further noted should Gimm be remanded to custody to await sentencing or trial, she could easily have to wait 12 months, given the time it takes to run drug tests in such matters.
Mr Sarra confirmed she could serve up to 18 months in pre-sentence custody should she be remanded but noted the defendant had been denied the opportunity to show cause.
Gimm was granted bail release with a warning that should she commit any offences going forward she would almost certainly be remanded.
“You are up to your neck in it,” Mr Sarra said.
“If you don’t want to go to jail, you need to pull your head out of your a***.”
Gimm is next scheduled to appear before court on July 4.
