A mother of eight who has been committed to stand trial for trafficking in meth, has been commended for staying out of trouble for almost a year.
Kathy Chantelle Charters, 34, of Griffin appeared at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 5.
Before pleading guilty to a string of charges she was committed to face the Supreme Court at a later date.
Police allege she trafficked in meth between December 8, 2019 – February 1, 2020.
Following her committal to the higher court she pleaded guilty to a number of other charges.
They included fraud, stealing, possessing dangerous drugs and more.
The court heard Charters had a relapse in 2019 following a traumatic event and lapsed into drug-affected offending.
On February 4, 2021 she stole a purse and committed nine counts of fraud and a single count of attempted fraud.
And on March 15, 2020 in Kingston she was found in possession of cannabis and drug utensils.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Donna Kay said the woman had a history of serious offending including a prison sentence for unlawfully using a vehicle and sentences of probation for drug offending.
Charters’ defence solicitor Layla King said her client had committed no significant offending since February last year and was remorseful.
The court heard she had also reported to police weekly faithfully for months.
Acting Magistrate Patrick Murphy commended her for her recent success.
Charters was sentenced to 12 months’ probation and was ordered to pay $346.95 in restitution for her stealing and fraud offences.
Convictions were recorded.
