Logan drunk driver flips car at Caltex servo while nearly three times the legal limit

A successful Logan businesswoman on a “detoxification” program only had three glasses of wine, a court heard, but flipped her car at a Caltex servo while nearly three times the legal limit.

Superbugs, how scared should we be?

A successful Logan businesswoman who styles herself online as a “word traveller” and “intuitive mentor” with the ability to “bio-hack humans” flipped her car at a Caltex service station while nearly three times the legal limit.

Forestdale woman Rebecca Leigh Johnson (nee McQuilty), 43, pleaded guilty to the single charge of mid-range drink driving.

The court heard Johnson’s crash happened just before midnight on August 7 at the Caltex service station on Johnson Rd, Hillcrest.

Witnesses didn’t see the wreck but heard a “loud bang” and saw Johnson’s car severely damaged and resting on its roof.

Police attended and performed a breath test, which they said revealed Johnson had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.142 per cent.

Johnson told police she had “only had three glasses of wine at the Greenbank RSL”, the court heard, but that she was currently on antibiotics and performing a “detoxification” program.

“This is not your typical style of manner (for drunk drivers),” defence lawyer Guy McEntyre told the court.

“She is mortified.

“Her car has been written off and her husband is her taxi for work.”

The court heard Johnson has no criminal history, nor previous offences of a like nature.

Her LinkedIn profile lists her as a state manager, account manager, business development manager and product sales trainer who currently works as an independent distributor for a wellness and personal care products company.

Magistrate Clare Kelly was sympathetic to Johnson’s position but warned her about the unpredictability of alcohol.

“This is not the normal way you live your life,” Ms Kelly said.

“You need to be careful when mixing alcohol and medication.”

Johnson was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for five months.

A conviction was recorded.
