Wildly popular fast food franchise Taco Bell to open in Strathpine

Mexican food fans have had a win after a court overturned a council decision to refuse the development.

Wildly popular Mexican fast food restaurant Taco Bell will open a franchise in Strathpine later this year after a judge overturned the decision by the Moreton Bay Regional Council to refuse the development application.

The franchise scored legions of Australian fans with it’s heavy-handed approach to Mexican cuisine, offering menu items such as the double crunch wrap which combines two beef tostadas and wraps them inside a toasted tortilla with double cheese, sour cream and lettuce.

Once opened, the Strathpine store will be the fourth Taco Bell in Brisbane, making it just one of an estimated 100 additional stores planned for Australia over the next four years.

Strathpine resident and self-professed “Taco Bell addict” Peter Graham said he’s “in so much trouble” now a new store will be opening within a few minutes of his home.

“I don’t care … Taco Bell makes an awesome cheat meal,” he said.

The council turned down the original application in February because it claimed the development plans at 380 Gympie Rd would create a flood hazard and did not maximise the efficient use of the land for future growth, among other complaints.

The Planning and Environment Court ruled in favour of the appeal submitted by ICP developments, on the condition the proposed construction adheres to specific conditions.

An additional building plan shown to meet those conditions must be approved prior to the start of construction.

A petrol station will adjoin the fast food restaurant, with 19 carparking spaces, 8 fuel pumps and access via both Gympie Rd and Railway Ave.
