The faces of Queensland's shocking road toll

The man responsible for a multi-vehicle crash on the Gateway Motorway near Bracken Ridge has today been found guilty of three charges at the Sandgate Magistrates Court.

The court heard Troy Robert Evison, from Burpengary, was driving a motorbike while on a disqualified license and without a number plate attached when he ploughed into the car in front of him at around 3.30pm August 18.

Evison told police he was travelling to work in the northbound lane when he became distracted watching the cars in the southbound lane.

“When he turned back to face the road the traffic had stopped ahead of him and it was too close to stop, so he drove into the back of it,” said police prosecutor sergeant Troy Newman.

Evison pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified under a court order, failing to drive with sufficient distance to avoid collision and failure to ensure his number plate was attached.

Magistrate Jennifer Batts warned Evison that people do go to jail for committing similar offences and fined him $1317.

The conviction was recorded and Evison was disqualified from driving for two years.
