Teens arrested after alleged westside home invasion, high-speed stolen car crash

Dramatic CCTV has captured the moment a gang of teens launched a brazen luxury car raid northwest of Brisbane, which ended when a stolen Mercedes smashed into a tree.

Five youths have been taken into custody after allegedly breaking into home northwest of Brisbane, stealing car keys, handbags and wallets and later crashing a stolen Mercedes into a tree while speeding.

Police will allege that early on Sunday morning (May 7) two youths broke into a HR worker’s home about 5am.

“We were asleep (and) didn’t notice it until 7.30am. (We) saw the car was gone then noticed my bags and wallet were gone too,” the woman said.

“They’d rifled through my husband’s car as well.

“I am pretty angry and upset about it.”

Police allege they stole her car keys, three handbags, her wallet and a white Mercedes parked at her Arana Hills home.

“It’s on our security camera, which they pulled the finger to,” the woman said.

She said the (teens’) parents were very apologetic, but she now felt failed by the judicial system and was scared to sleep in her own home.

The following night (May 8), the allegedly stolen white Mercedes crashed into a tree.

Five youths were allegedly seen driving the car at speed on Casey St, Keperra.

Onlookers said they heard screeching, followed by a big bang.

One witness said the car could have killed someone.

“Thank goodness the tree stopped them,” she said. “Horrible.”

“It’s quite amazing no one was killed with a head on like that,” another said.

It is understood all five youths allegedly fled on foot following the crash.

Police then chased and arrested them.

Police have confirmed they investigated a burglary at the Arana Hills address on May 7 and that a white Mercedes was stolen. They said they had charged five youths.

They said the same car was found crashed into a tree on Casey St at 8.30pm on May 8.

A 16-year-old Arana Hills boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 16-year-old Kelvin Grove girl was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of using a carriage service to make threat to kill.

A 17-year-old Upper Kedron boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of supplying drugs and one count of possessing a thing used in connection with a crime.

A 13-year-old Chermside boy has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 14-year-old Arana Hills boy has been charged with break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

They will appear in Brisbane Children’s Court at a later date.

The owner of the allegedly stolen car said she was upset and scared.

She was also angry and frustrated after finding social media posts depicting unidentified youths bragging about allegedly stealing her car.

“We haven’t been sleeping and want to move,” she said.

“I am thankful that no one got hurt, which was a big concern.

“Police have been good, but they are hamstrung by the judicial system.”

She said she spotted her car while doing the school run on Monday morning, before it was later found crashed into the tree.

“I saw my car (allegedly) driving erratically around the area,’’ she said.

“I followed them (the driver) from McDowall to Mitchelton, but gave up when their driving was seriously threatening a severe accident. They saw me following them.’’
