St Joseph’s Nudgee College’s Cooper Skerry is having the time of his life as he pursues his football goalkeeping dreams in the United Kingdom.
He has been signed to the under 18 Leeds United FC Academy after being part of the Nudgee First XI in 2018 and 2019.
Skerry will be developing his skill under Leeds goalkeeping coach Neil Sullivan, a veteran of 200 Premier League appearances, including stints with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
NUDGEE COLLEGE SPRINTER IN DAZZLING FORM
Nudgee Football Director Jamie Pybus described Skerry as hard working, committed and always wanting to improve. He said Skerry was dedicated to improvement.
“He never did just enough – he did the extras and always wanted to work to improve.”
Skerry’s mother, Tanya, said her son was “concentrating on building on the solid foundation of skills’’.
Much of Skerry’s development in recent years has been attributed to his former Nudgee goalkeeping coach Billy Lumley.
NUDGEE COLLEGE WIN STATE T20 TOURNAMENT
Pybus said Lumley “should take a lot of credit for guiding Cooper’s development over the last few years when Cooper has made massive improvements”.
Skerry’s recent success has also sparked excitement within the Nudgee Football community.
“We have a large football program with players of all levels, including aspiring high performance players,’’ Pybus said.
