St Joseph’s Nudgee College student Ashley Wong enters this week’s Queensland’s School State Championships in stunning form.
Wong ran a new 200m PB of 21.89s in his most recent event, a sizzling time given it was just outside the under 16 state record set in 1992 (Mark Sills) and also marginally short of the 15 years Qld Schools State record of 21.88 set in 1998 (Damian Bock).

In setting that PB, the Bracken Ridge Little Athletics junior, who is now at QUT Athletics Club under coach Travis Venema, beat Reece Holder. Holder is the 200m and 400m under 18 Oceania Champion who is two years Wong’s senior.
WONG TYPICAL OF NUDGEE SCHOOL SPIRIT
In August Wong was in record breaking form at the recent Met North regional titles.
Wong set new records in the 100m and 200m events, and then in September broke the Queensland Nitro Athletics record in the 60m and 200m events, including running sub 22 seconds (21.99) for the first time.
His Queensland Nitro performance followed his sensational haul at the Australian track and field championships earlier in the year when he claimed three gold medals.
